Trustees' Report

The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of Thirsk and Northallerton Lions Club Charitable Incorporated Organisation (the Charity) for the 12-month period ending 30 June 2022. The Trustees confirm that the Annual Report and financial statements of the Charity comply with the current statutory requirements, the requirements of the Charity’s governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” issued in March 2015.

Structure, Governance and Management

Thirsk and Northallerton Lions Club Charity registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on the 5[th] September 2017. The Club Charter was transferred to the new CIO from 1 April 2018.

The Constitution stipulates that the minimum number of trustees shall be three and the maximum twelve. The President, Secretary and Treasurer are all mandatory trustees. Any member taking up those posts must be trustee. The process for the appointment of trustees is stipulated in the Constitution. A ‘Trustees’ meeting is held when required, and in any case every two months. This meeting manages the governance of the club as set out under the Charitable Incorporated Organisation Constitution.

The Charity’s insurance requirements are covered under Lions Clubs International Multiple District 105 insurance arrangements.

The trustees confirm they have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit 'Charities and Public Benefit'. This year the CIO have continued to provide public benefit, and we will explain how this has been achieved in this report.

All the administration expenses of the CIO are dealt with through the ‘Administration Account’ the balance of which does not include any money raised from members of the public. The trustees can confirm that the CIO does not have any outstanding liabilities or debts.

The CIO has a grant making policy, all applications are considered by the trustees at their meetings. The trustees then make recommendations which are considered by all the members of the CIO. The procedure for this process is outlined within the constitution.

Donations

In this 12-month period the club has had income of £6,358.04

After two years we were able to hold our Santa Sleigh collections as normal. The public were very generous this year and we raised a record amount. This amount was increased by our annual Gift Aid claim.

We continued to provide service activities where possible including members of the club assisting with community activities supporting the vulnerable and assisting at vaccination and blood collecting sessions.

The CIO donated £1,556 to Lions Clubs International Charities during this period, including £1,000 to the refugee and displaced persons appeal for Ukraine.

The CIO have supported local causes to the sum of £2,037, including donating £600 to Barnes Explorer Scouts and £300 towards the installation of a defibrillator in Coxwold Village. In addition, the club have purchased a number of environment tal books for distribution to local schools (identified as Wildtribeheros in the accounts)

During the year the CIO also helped to marshal the Yorkshire Lasses Bike Ride (no fee as all their income go to Cancer Charities), the MadRun over the Yorkshire Dales and at Kiplin Hall, just outside Northallerton and assisting Knaresborough Lions on their bed race day.

The CIO continue to try and recruit new members however this is proving to be a challenge.

Membership

Membership of the CIO at the end of June 2022 was 9 active members. Members meet once per month and take part in the social and fundraising activities of the CIO.
