## **Objectives and Activities**

|Summary of the main<br>activities in relation to those<br>purposes for the public<br>benefit, in particular, the<br>activities, projects or<br>services identified in the<br>accounts.|Para 1.17 and<br>1.19|The main focus of our work has been the<br>projects contained in the grant from NHLF<br>namely Religion and Welfare in Butetown<br>from the 1940’s to 1960’s and forgotten<br>sporting icons.<br>Volunteers, led by one of our trustees have<br>gathered a large amount of information<br>which we now have to develop into useable<br>formats suitable for use in Schools. This<br>work has brought us into closer contacts<br>with local groups and clubs where we are<br>always met with enthusiasm and interest.<br>We have presented our work and the<br>history of Tiger Bay to a range of<br>organisations, local and national. Tiger Bay<br>and the World [TBW] are part of a UK wide<br>network focussing on Black history from a<br>local perspective<br>Together with Butetown Community Centre<br>we hosted a delegation of people from<br>Birmingham Alabama USA, where links|





|||between Alabama and Wales were<br>rekindled. Amongst the many events the<br>chair of trustees presented our work at the<br>launch of Wales Black History 365 and at a<br>Jaz in the Bay celebration the diseased<br>singers from the old Tiger Bay.<br>Schools’ engagement continues and has<br>expanded to include a Comprehensive<br>school in Cardiff. TBW has developed a<br>good working relationship with DARPL –<br>Diversity and Anti Racism Professional<br>Learning, who are helping us develop parts<br>of collection into teaching materials.<br>The targeting of underrepresented groups<br>to include those with Protected<br>Characteristics, for volunteers is continuing<br>slowly but steadily. With the employment of<br>a Community Engagement worker, this<br>work has gathered momentum and<br>numbers have increased<br>We have run a number of volunteer days,<br>where they were able to taed part in<br>activities connected to our work. Volunteers<br>were involved in an all day workshop where<br>they interviewed and filmed elders from the<br>community.<br>In fulfilling its duties to meet the public<br>benefit we have developed productive<br>partnerships. Key amongst them are the<br>partnerships with Glamorgan Archives and<br>Cardiff Museum as well as local groups.<br>We have also developed a good<br>relationship with Cardiff University School<br>of Journalism, where our volunteers were<br>involved in developing an exhibition of<br>photographs<br>We are part of a Welsh History Forum<br>shaping the development of showcasing<br>Welsh History<br>Community involvement and giving back is<br>an integral part of HCE’s work.|

It does this via its<br>website and FaceBook pages and through<br>speaking engagements across Wales<br>including those organised by Llafur: the<br>Welsh People’s History Society and has<br>worked with various media outlets on<br>productions, providing images or/and<br>commentary.<br>Work with schools is continuing and<br>expanding and a good relationship DARPL<br>[Diversity and Professional learning has<br>given guidance on how to prepare teaching<br>material<br>Further work to develop a touchscreen<br>display for historic building in Cardiff Docks<br>has resulted in a touchscreen display<br>developed for the Harbour Authority.|
