A volunteer-led charity, SMBP is a
Collaboration of over 160 commercial
organisalions, professional services firms
and professional sports teams working lo
deliver Work Insight and Skills weeks across
seventeen towns and cities in the UK.

All the SMBP Partners are commilled lo
supporting Year 12 and Year 13 students
from low income backgrounds in their pursuit
of a career in business Since 2014, SMBP
has grown from offering OPPDrtunilies lo 20
students in London, lo over 500 sludenl
places across the UK in 2022.

about the psychology ol resilience, they then
spend a day with four different businesses in
8 week. Students gain an understanding of
what each business does. insight into how

SMBP is supported by over 750 volunteers
across 25 clusters. Key roles ale Cluster
Head and Sludenl Sourcing Lead. supported
by volunleers from all our partners who help
lo deliver the programme on the day and
chaperone students during Iransportalion.
The Cluster Head lakes overall responsibility
for project managing the ¢lusler working
closely with the Sludenl Sourcing Lead.
They manage and maintain relationships
with all commercial partners and employee
volunteers and arrange iegular meetings lo
ensure they are on track lo deliver an
interactive and engaging day for the
students and to prevent any duplication of
material.
Safeguarding is key lo the welfare of
students and Cluster Heads are responsible
for ensuring that all partners have completed
and submilled a health & safely assessment
relevant to their premises. They also ensure
DBS certificates are in place for a lead
chaperone who volunteers lo accompany

sludenls on long train or coach journeys
during the programme.
The Sludenl Sourcing Lead is the main
contact for law firms and education partners
al recognised schools and colleg&s and will
often visit schools and colleges lo promote
the Piogiamme. Their role is lo ensure
selected students lil the criteria of the
programme and will work closely with the
brokerage l education contacts lo ensuie
this is adhered lo. They work with the
Cluster Head lo ensure all relevant
regislfalion forms are completed in a timely
and regulatory manner.
Each participating business partner within all
of the 25 clusleis could not run their SMBP
day wilhoul the help of the three or more
employees that volunteer their IiTne lo assist
with the delivery ol the day on their sile.
Where coaches or long group train journeys
are arranged by SMBP for travel, employees
also volunteer as chaperones lo ensure
students are accompanied. with one lead
chaperone completing an enhanced DBS
check.

In 2023, in line with an ongoing commitment to
increase the number of sludenl placements
across the UK, the Programme aims lo extend
ils programme lo include students from Exeler,
and in¢rease slud&nl placements in Belfast and
London. In addition, the SMBP will also be
running il's first pilot outside of the UK. in
Chicago, USA, in collaboration with Ihe NHP
Foundation. local charity TA98 and two US Law
firms," Holland & Kniohl LLP and Faegre Drinke
Biddle & Realh LLP. The pilot will be delivered
across 3 days lo students from low income
backgrounds during the summer holidays.
SMBP ernploys three fLJII lime members and
one part lime member of staff and is grateful lo
the 750 plus volunteers within the participating
businesses, who deliver Conlenl on SMBP days
or lake responsibility for central functions under
the direction ol the SMBP team.
All students who allend the Programme
register on SMBP'S bespoke Career Mentoring
Platform. Pailicipaling students can draw on
the experience of business, legal and finance

professionals for advi￿ on writing impaclful
Cvs and personal slalemenls, completing
university and job application forms and
prepping for an interview. As well as 9uidance,
students can opt lo ¥eceive information and
signposting to employment opportunities and
recruilmenl events al our partner organisalions.
SMBP is affecting a sea ¢hange in the way
work experience in the UK is delivered by
creating a model which tackles the issue of lack
of resour¢e and budget lo deliver meaningful
employer experiences.

for the curation of the common core elements
of a SMBP week {including the Induction

have completed the SMBP week. This includes

£203,497, in unreslricled funds, being our
cash in bank. The charity also holds £15,000
in resliicled funds. which is a donalion
earmarked for the 2023 scheme. The charity
has no other fixed or current assets.
The only liabilities the charily has are a
£4,205 creditor lo HMRC, and a £712 credit
lo our pension provider., both sellled within
30 days of year end131.12.2022).
The lolal income for the period was
£227,367. The lolal expenditure was
£231,939. The resetves of £198,580 amount
10 860/0 of the lolal Yeai 5 spend and 830/0 of
the lorecasl spend in Year 6. With a healthy
cash position, we do not envisage any
problems in meeting our expenses as they
fall due.
