Annual report 2020/21

The objects of the charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) are to advance the education of pupils in Eggar’s School, in particular by:

• Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school;

• Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.

We do this in two key ways. One by our service supporting events at the school, such as Open Evenings, Senior Citizens Christmas party and Yuletide Concert. This helps underpin the culture of Eggar’s as a supportive, inclusive and welcoming school. The other is fundraising .

The PTA has a proud tradition of supporting and raising funds for the school. The Covid restrictions that have been in place this year have sadly undermined our ability to do either to the level that we would like. The events that we usually support have not taken place and our ability to raise funds has suffered as a result.

On a positive note, the committee has continued to meet via Zoom and has used these meetings to discuss ways to revamp the PTA once restrictions are lifted and life returns to normal.

The PTA faces an uncertain future as a number of committee members will step down at the end of next year as their children leave Eggar’s. Covid restrictions have also made it harder than usual to attract new members to the committee. As restrictions hopefully lift, we will need to launch a campaign to recruit new members so that the PTA can once again thrive and support the school in the way it has done in the past.

I am pleased that the committee agreed to donate our available funds (£1,550) to school in December. This figure was carefully considered so as to leave the PTA with sufficient funds to be able to put on events once Covid rules allow. I am also pleased that we were able to reduce some of our fixed costs by negotiating a reduction of over 50% in our website fee. The funds we have received as a result of supporters using Easyfundraising and Amazon have been essential in helping us cover our costs this year and we are grateful to those people.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support the PTA during this difficult time. I look forward to a more positive future for it during 2021/2022.

TREASURER’S REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2021 AGM TUESDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2021

Overview

Our income for 2020/21 was £191.32 and expenditure was £1987.77 making a total loss of £1,796.45.

Fundraising activities

We didn’t carry out any fundraising events in the 2020/21 year

Miscellaneous transactions

We received income of £191.32 from Easyfundraising and Amazon. Easyfundraising accounted for £170.13 of this total and Amazon for £21.19.

Our miscellaneous costs were for the website (£123.60), our ParentKind membership fee (£123) and prom shop expenses of £191.17. The prom shop expenses were incurred in 2019/2020 but paid in this year.

Donations

As agreed at the 2020 AGM, we made a donation of £1,550.00 to school in December 2020. We also donated any in-date stock to the school for distribution to the teachers and children.

• We finish the end of this year with £313.58 in available funds. We have no stock (other than the prom shop stock).

• With no events this year, we have just about been able to keep our heads above water thanks to the income from Easyfundraising and Amazon. This income has helped cover our regular costs of £10.30 a month for the website and the ParentKind annual membership fee.

• We have recently negotiated a price reduction for the website (from £10.30 a month to £4.50 a month).

• Our bank, HSBC, has notified us that with effect from November 2021 it will no longer be offering community accounts. It will instead move our account to a charity account which unfortunately comes with the following fees:

• Monthly account fee of £5.

• Cash paid into and out of the account will be charged at 0.4% of the value paid in or withdrawn.

• Cheques will be charged at £0.40 per cheque

• Change supplied over the counter will be charged at 1.5% of the full amount.

• I have carried out some initial research to find an alternative bank account but have found that many of the high street banks are not accepting applications from organisations looking to switch (Lloyds, Barclays, Santander). NatWest will only accept applications from parties who already have a bank account with them.
