Trustees’ Report

The Committee present their annual report together with the independently examined accounts for the year ended August .

The Trustees confirm the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the charity comply with current statutory requirements of the charity’s governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice SORP “Accounting and Reporting for Charities” issued in March .

Structure, Management and Governance

Constitution

The Charity is registered with the Charities Commission and is established by a constitution adopted on [ th ] March . The Charity was registered with the Charities Commission on [ th ] August .

All parents/guardians of pupils attending The Fulham Boys School are automatically members of the Friends of FBS, as well as any non-parent individuals or organisations appointed by the Trustees under Sections and of the Constitution. All the Trustees have children who are currently at The Fulham Boys School.

All Trustees are encouraged to keep up to date with the role and legal responsibility of a trustee. The Committee of Trustees administers the Charity and meets at least termly with further meetings as required.

The Charity’s finances are reviewed by the Trustees at each committee meeting.

The Trustees who were in office for the year ended August are listed on page . Trustees are appointed at the Annual General Meeting held annually.

Management

All Trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits.

Governance

The charity must have at least Trustees in place. Trustees are elected for a year term and are elected at a special meeting for this purpose.

Objectives and activities

The objects of FFBS are the advancement of education of pupils at The Fulham Boys School, in particular by engaging in activities, providing or assisting in the provision of facilities, materials, equipment or additional learning opportunities not normally provided by the Department for Education or any other Governmental body.

Additionally, FFBS has the aim of fostering relations between the staff, parents and others associated with the school. The Trustees have paid due attention to the guidance published by the Charities Commission on ‘Charities and Public Benefit’ and believe that FFBS benefits the children of The Fulham Boys School, their families and indirectly the wider public.

Achievements and performance

This report covers the period st September to st August .

Fundraising & Social Events

Autumn Term

FBS again welcomed new boys to the school.

We were able to hold an incoming year parent meet in the courtyard of the new building with social distancing measures. The uniform sale was a huge success raising over ,. This was exclusively down to one parent, MASSIVE thanks to Billie, dry-cleaning and doing minor repairs on all the pre-loved blazers and trousers so we were able to optimise uniform saleability. We also sold approximately water bottles

Faith Opening ceremony - Friends of FBS supported the school in celebrating the move to the new building and focussed that around the three key pillars. The first celebration of Faith was a wonderful evening of song and prayer and the cutting of the ribbon which officially opened the new building.

International Food Market

All parents cook and acts perform. Friends advertise the event and help with set-up and clean-up and run a bar and soft drinks. It is the favourite event in the calendar for everyone to get involved. Over countries represented and the food is just amazing. A cultural smorgasbord.

An added bonus to this fabulously inclusive FBS community event is the huge , raised this year.

Christmas wreath making - Many parents and carers made really gorgeous wreaths. Competitively priced at per package with a mini bottle of fizz included - it netted almost . The demonstration was presented by a celebrity actor and it was a really fun afternoon in person and on zoom.

Christmas Fair - stalls including honey from local bees for refugees, candles, Wax Hands, delicious bread, sweets and treats. Laser tag in the drama studio was a favourite among the boys. The Gaming Bus turned out to be a loss leader. BBQ burgers and vegetarian option were delicious as always.

Christmas raffle - prizes donated to make this a must have ticket - raised over ,. And one extra prize for buying a programme on the door which brought in another .

Christmas Auction - Over lots donated - everything sold for good prices. Took nearly ,.

Christmas Board Campaign I nvisible Homes sponsored the summer fair Board Campaign to the tune of ,.

All in, our Christmas fundraising netted just over , and a lot of fun was had by all.

FFBS 00 Club Lottery Report

As another way of encouraging regular giving, Friends run the FFBS club. At full capacity our school can host 00 pupils, and Friends want to support every one of them. To help fund this we run a monthly prize draw called the "FFBS 00 club" lottery. When Friends sell all 00 subscriptions of £ per month we will be able to donate £33,00 a year to the school AND give away £1,00 in prizes*! It's literally a win-win! Ticket holders support the school AND get a chance of winning 33 cash prizes every year - and now, thanks to our sponsor you can also win vouchers for delicious Italian food.

Each monthly prize pot is calculated based on the number of tickets sold at the time of each draw. 1st prize 1, 2nd Prize 10, 3rd Prize

At the end of the academic year , the Lottery had members.

Spring Term

In March we relaunched an old favourite, the Curry and Quiz night, which was really good fun. A great quiz master compered the event masterfully, and Mike, the school chef, made a fantastic Thai green curry. The green theme was carried throughout the event as it was on St Patrick’s day. Over people attended and the event made approx . Branded with FBS pens, priceless.

Summer Term

Friends supported the Ukrainian fundraising event hosted by Inspired Fulham.

Friends supported the Breck Foundation Presentation on Thursday th April. A necessary look at the danger of online harms. Refreshments were served.

An audience with Tom Watson, previously deputy leader of the Labour Party and MP for West Bromwich East, was a candid discussion of the world of politics. Students, teachers and parents got an insiders’ take on the questions of the day.

Secretary of Friends of FBS and parent, Debra Morrall, organised the building of two lovely planters by Colin McDonnell, for the front door and these were beautifully planted up.

Debra went on to apply for a eco-greening grant for the courtyard, and won! Huge thanks to Debra for her hard work and vision. The bid successfully came first, winning the , grant. But the monies were not received until Year Ending

Summer Fair

BBQ burgers and vegetarian option were delicious as always. But the winning draw was the Ethiopian food provided by Abugida, a local restaurant supported by parents of FBS. Slush, candy floss, tea and coffee, as well as a well stocked bar for the adults. Laser Tag, Tombola, basketball, golf putting, beat the goalie and eat the donut were loads of fun.

Along with another successful raffle which raised over and Carter Jonas board sponsorship which raised ,. The sun shone on a fun and friendly saturday.

Friends provided refreshments and nibbles for a whole variety of school events in the Spring and Summer terms served in the Canteen at start and end of evenings. Often providing access to second hand uniform too.

Welcoming Year with a successful parent meet, water bottle and uniform sale. ,. was raised but, more importantly, loads of clothes were recycled, keeping them from landfill.

Friends provided Sports Day refreshments for all the attendants on what turned out to be a scorching hot day - much appreciated by all.

The GCSE information evening for Year was filled with cake and conversation; the Brilliant Club Celebration Evening was, well, brilliant; the Going Solo concert was inspiring. And the Leavers event was a little sad, but lots of fun.

Annual Staff Appreciation tea - As ever a huge amount of delicious food was cooked, baked and donated by parents. We said a heartfelt goodbye to a few teachers and to the others au revoir until September.

Water Bottles

Sold out of all the favourite colours in large bottles and made a note to purchase more in September. Overall the bottles have made a comfortable profit but more importantly, they are nicely branded with the school logo and encourage the boys to carry transparent, re-use water bottles.

Other Fundraising / Income Gift Aid

FFBS is registered with HMRC for Gift Aid purposes, meaning we are able to reclaim the tax paid by the donors on all their eligible donations, where we are given permission to do so. In cash terms this means that we benefit from an additional on eligible donations, and are able to claim it both retrospectively from th June as well as going forward.

We are also able to claim gift aid on sponsored events, so this really is a worthwhile initiative and we encourage all parents to sign a gift aid declaration.

Easy Fundraising

Registered with the Easy Fundraising online shopping portal, membership continued to grow sporadically, with a a total of . this year of “free” money this year; commission paid on online purchases made through the site.

One-off Donations and Regular Giving

With the FBS Foundation which has assumed the responsibility for parental regular giving, and large scale fundraising the focus of the Friends is enhancing and building upon the FBS family community. Regular givers have largely been migrated to the Foundation, a few still outstanding.

Benefaction to The Fulham Boys School This year, FFBS gave a total of , to The Fulham Boys School. These monies were allocated to The FBS Foundation, and Friends provided sponsored hospitality at various school events

Reserves policy

At the period end current assets amounted to 19,693.41 . This was considered to be sufficient reserves by the charity as expenditure is only made on specific projects and only when funds are available. All reserves are held in cash deposits as the charity wishes to have the funds available to be released as soon as a project is accepted.

Future Plans

In the course of the next year, the charity will continue to support The Fulham Boys School by concentrating on fostering and strengthening the parent body community. It will do this by arranging a variety of inclusive events aimed across the diverse demographic of the school families.

With the easing of COVID restrictions next year should be a real celebration.

Declaration

The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ report above.

The charity’s Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s Trustees consider that an audit is not required for the period under section of the Charities Act The Act and that an independent examination is needed.

Notes to the Financial Statements

1. Accounting Policies

1.1 Basis of preparation

The accounts financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland FRS issued on July and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland FRS and the Charities Act and UK Generally Accepted Practice as it applies from January

1.2 Incoming Resources

All incoming resources are recognised once the charity has entitlement to the resources, it is certain that the resources will be received and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

1.3 Resources expended

Expenditure is recognised in the period in which liability is incurred and has been classified under headings that aggregate costs related to that category.

All resources expended are inclusive of irrecoverable VAT.

1. Going concern

The Trustees assess whether the use of the going concern principle is appropriate, ie. Whether there are any material uncertainties related to events or conditions that may cast doubt on the ability of the school to continue as a going concern. In the foreseeable future, the Trustees make this assessment in respect of a period of one year from the date of approval of the financial statements. On this basis the Trustees consider that the adoption of the going concern principal is appropriate.

1. Taxation

The charity is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph Schedule of the Finance Act and therefore it meets the definition of the charitable organisation for UK corporation tax purposes. Accordingly, the Trust is potentially exempt from taxation in respect of income or capital gains received within categories covered by chapter Part of the Corporation Act or Section of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act , to the extent that such income or gains are applied exclusively to charitable purposes.
