## **Section C Objectives and activities**
The objects of the CIO are:
**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**
(1) To advance, improve, develop and maintain public awareness in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts.
(2) To further such exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit as the trustees in their absolute discretion shall think fit from time to time, in particular through the making of grants and donations.
The objects of the CIO are supported by the following activities:
**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**
- (1) Public performances booked by third parties for community or other benefit.
- (2) Performances arranged by the CIO independently or jointly with another organisation.
- (3) Providing facilities which promote the practice and enjoyment of the art of music for recreational well-being, through encouragement and support of the musical development of others.
- (4) Making of grants and donations.
In the planning of the activities, the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**
WorleWind Band became a recognised charity on 10[th] August 2017. All policies and procedures are reviewed, updated where necessary and reapproved by the Trustees annually.
You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:
- policy on grantmaking;
- policy programme related investment;
- contribution made by volunteers.
There were no significant updates to existing policies in 2020.
A new COVID-19 pandemic policy was created and ratified following cessation of activities on the 12th March 2020 and has been updated throughout the year in accordance with Government guidance, taking available advice from Public Health England, the DCMS and our insurers, Making Music.
Aligned to the COVID-19 policy is a COVID-19 Risk Assessment which has been ratified and published on the Band’s website. Additionally, it has been used as a best practice template by other bands for their own assessments.

Section D Achievements and performance
**Summary of the main** 2020 commenced with a successful concert at Weston Museum in **achievements of the charity** February. COVID-19 saw the cessation of activities from March and **during the year** brought the need to meet our charitable objectives in a different way. Thanks in no small part to an initial grant from the Arts Council we were able to move to some online collaboration, between lockdowns and in accordance with the Risk Assessment we managed:
- 23 rehearsals (13 of them in the current split band format)
- • 5 small group rehearsals • 8 garden ensembles • weekly clarinet and brass ensembles • 2 lockdown recordings • clap for heroes/VE day/remembrance doorstep performances • 14 carolling sets • 1 Christmas compilation • 1 ‘virtual’ concert • 2 ‘live’ recordings • 24 individual member recordings uploaded to social media
In addition to the ensemble work, the COVID-19 lockdowns also saw generous lending of personal instruments to people learning to play/improve. The experience has reinforced the need for continued outreach and engagement in music in the community. To this end a project has been started to establish the tools and equipment needed to continue this into the future.
A collaboration with Justin Williams (an American composer/arranger) led to him writing a piece dedicated to the band in lockdown “Tribute to Unity” linking our Nations through music at this time of shared challenge.
Engagement with members has been superb keeping in touch, even with those who felt they needed to press pause on their physical involvement this year, either through zoom, social media or garden coffees! With social media interest on facebook and twitter the band has also seen its YouTube views reach the 80,000 mark.
2021 brings the hope that at some point we will be able to meet properly again, further our outreach, resume public performances and enjoy the postponed weekend tour to the Isle of Wight and Anniversary concert.
## **Section E Financial review**
**Brief statement of the** The reserves policy for the band is nominally calculated as at least the **charity’s policy on reserves** previous year’s running costs plus three months of anticipated income. In any event the reserves must not be lower than £4k to cover any costs of dissolution.
The Trustees approved a release of reserves to fund COVID measures and keep the operating balance positive in 2020, and the reserves position remains healthy and above the minimum level in the policy.

All revenue has supported the charitable objectives of the organisation with no-one receiving any form of remuneration.
2020 was heavily impacted by COVID-19 and despite reducing outgoings as far as possible (40%), outgoings outstripped operating revenue by £700. Leaving £82 operating balance.

The Arts Council of England supported our COVID and online measures with a grant from their initial Emergency Response Fund.
The Organisation excited to start 2021 with contributions received from Weston-Super-Mare Town Councill and Skinners’ Lady Neville Charity alongside private individual donations (fiscal and in-kind) towards our goals for the future.
The reserves balance remains in accordance with the policy.
## **Section F Other optional information**
A sum of £2,015 represents the deposit money held by the organisation on behalf of members for the postponed trip to Isle of Wight – these are separately recorded and accounted for. Subject to COVID-19 restrictions being lifted, this trip is intended to be rescheduled.

The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year
