Our second children’s book – Trouble At
The Zoo! – successfully launched. This has
provided much needed fundraising income
and also supports our programme of book
readings which promote good citizenship,
identity and social cohesion.
**BAME Maternity launched. First Annual**
**event**
Pursuant to our charitable objective to
relieve sickness and preserve and protect
good health through medical research into
infant and childhood illness, the charity
launched BAME Maternity. This is an
initiative that highlights maternity issues
facing diverse communities; the
programming has been led by Helen
Knower, Director of Midwifery, Lewisham
and Greenwich NHS Trust. In this, its first
year, a number of well-received webinars
were delivered, a website launched and a
first annual online conference delivered.
This promoted shared learning and best
practice and was attended by an audience
spanning midwifery, the wider medical
profession, Maternity Voice Partnerships,
policy makers, social workers, charities and,
crucially, a diverse range of communities
from within the Boroughs of Lewisham and
Bromley and far beyond.
**Simon Shades Scholarship**
The Simon Shades Scholarship was
pivoted for online delivery. COVID
disrupted plans for a live event and
delayed delivery of the project element of
the Scholarship. At the end of the
reporting period, we had coalesced
significant local support and were building
momentum for June delivery of the event.
The event’s goal is to unite Lewisham
youth with Lewisham alumni in open
conversation on food and future pathways.
A successful event will see connections
made across generations, cultures and
backgrounds.
**Book readings**
Continued book readings promoting good
citizenship, identity and social cohesion.
Netted £80 from ticket sales to one such
event where our book readings were part
of a wider Halloween themed fun day.
**Grant making activities**
Grants were made to a mix of animal
welfare and community causes. Through| our BAME Maternity initiative we promoted knowledge sharing in support of our charitable objective and grossed £2,080 which will be used to further our charitable objectives including establishing an annual bursary. ## **Additional information (optional)** ## You may choose to include further statements where relevant about: ||Achievements against

COVID pandemic.
We made plans to pivot the first Simon
Shades Scholarship project online.
Our BAME Maternity initiative which
spanned webinars and an annual event
was delivered online. Our BAME Maternity
project has delivered the means to create
a new bursary scheme and fund related

Maternity initiative and the encouraging
initial sales of our second children’s book.
