Firstly, Malawi faced the worst cyclone in history of the country. Cyclone Freddy resulted in a number of deaths and a lot of families were displaced. To date, some people still remain unaccounted for. The Malawi government declared a state of disaster appealing to donors to support those affected by the cyclone. Following this, SECCA-UK launched a Cyclone Freddy appeal through go Fund and to our well-wishers. SECCA-UK was also in receipt of donations from other charities to support in its appeal to the Cyclone and these deserve a special mention. Baby Beat charity donated material support to the victims and Men4Real donated funds worth £800 and these funds were used to build a house for one of the victims that lost a house in the cyclone. In total our Cyclone Freddy Appeal managed to raise up to £7352.51. These funds were used for the purchase of food packages and transportation logistics of materials in an operation coordinated by our counterparts SECCA MALAWI in conjunction with the Ministry of Disaster and Preparedness. The Trustees would like to thank each donor that responded generously to our cause. Despite the challenges of Cyclone Freddy, SECCA-UK did not carry much charitable activities as previously planned due to the change in focus of the target projects . We have previously supported small projects within Malawi but going forward it was the wish of the Trustees to see more projects implemented within Malawi under the umbrellaship of SECCA Malawi. Other projects supported in the year were 1. **Tikonze Women group** -£300- This was for a small project in livestock production where beneficiaries were provided with goats with as a source of income, nutrition & assets. It is well known that goat production is environmentally friendly, require less capital,water, land and feed. Hopefully once these goats reproduce they can be recycled to other beneficiaries within the group long term. We plan to build a warehouse in Malawi for SECCA which will act as a central point for coordinating and supporting SECCA activities. This will help in fulfilling the vision and the primary objective of SECCA in assisting widows, orphans and the elderly.
