||||||The Charity owns the Regimental<br>Collection|
||||||which is on loan to DCC under an|
||||||agreement<br>between<br>the Charity and DCC,|
||||||the most recent version of which came into|
||||||effect on 13October 2021.The Regimental|
||||||Collection comprises<br>two parts:|
||||||The Archive<br>is that part of the|
||||||Regimental<br>Collection consisting of|
||||||documents,<br>manuscript<br>and printed|
||||||books, maps and plans, photograph|
||||||albums<br>and photographs<br>etc|
||||||covering the entire history of the|
||||||Durham<br>Light Infantry<br>from 1758to|
||||||1968.The Archive is cared for by the|
||||||Durham<br>County Record Office|
||||||(DCRO), an Accredited<br>Archive|
||||||Service administered<br>by DCC.|
||||||~The Ob'ects is that part ofthe|
||||||Regimental<br>Collection consisting<br>of|
||||||some 15,000 2D and 3Dobjects|
||||||including<br>textiles,<br>uniforms,<br>weapons,|
||||||medals,<br>relics and memorials,|
||||||covering the entire history ofthe|
||||||Durham<br>Light Infantry<br>from 1758to|
||||||1968.The objects are cared for by|
||||||the DLI Collection (DLIC) which<br>is|
||||||also nationally<br>accredited<br>and is|
||||||administered<br>by DCC.|





|Following the closure of the DLI Museum|in|
|---|---|
|2016, the DLIC has continued<br>to be||
|accessed through<br>a deconstructed<br>model||
|including<br>a Research and Study Centre,||
|secure stores, and collections care, learning||
|and engagement<br>programme,<br>and an||
|exhibition<br>offer comprising<br>ofa dedicated||
|gallery for five years (see below) and the||
|production<br>offive temporary<br>exhibitions||
|displayed<br>across the county.||
|DCC entered<br>into an agreement<br>in 2016with||
|Durham<br>University<br>(DU) for 5 years to||
|provide<br>provision<br>and services<br>in relation|to|
|the DLIC. This includes<br>the DLI Gallery at||
|Palace Green Library, storage and access to||
|the medal collection, and associated||
|exhibition<br>programme.<br>The agreement<br>has||
|been extended<br>to January 2023.||
|Turning<br>to the reporting<br>period (1 January|to|
|31 December 2022), COVID-19 restrictions||
|began to ease in February<br>and national<br>life||
|slowly returned<br>to some semblance<br>of||
|'normality.<br>' The Trustees have continued|to|
|fo!Iow closely the plans for DCC's new<br>'||
|heritage<br>centre, 'The Story.||
|The Story||
|In 2022 the DCRO and DLIC prepared<br>the||
|collections for the move to a new heritage||
|centre to be known as 'The Story' at Mount||
|Oswald,<br>1'6 miles south of Durham<br>City||
|Centre. The new venue<br>will provide||
|permanent<br>high-quality<br>storage, meeting|all|
|archival<br>and conservation<br>standards<br>as well||
|as improved<br>research<br>facilities, conservation||
|and digitisation<br>spaces and engagement||
|with the public through<br>an exhibition<br>and||
|learning<br>studio. The two parts of the||
|collection<br>will be reunited<br>through<br>shared||
|facilities allowing access to the collection|in|
|new and improved<br>ways. The project is||
|supported<br>by NHLF funding<br>for an activities||
|and digital engagement<br>programme<br>to||
|improve access to and engagement<br>with|the|
|Collection through<br>learning,<br>digitisation,||
|exhibition<br>and events. This will increase the||
|reach ofthe audience across the county and||
|beyond. 2022 saw the creation of new||
|learning<br>programmes<br>as part ofthis and the||
|development<br>work for the relocation.||
|Whilst work towards<br>The Story' has been||
|ongoing,<br>additional<br>activities have included:||

|March 2022, Churchill<br>College,||

|||||||the archives received access to the||
|||||||Twitter account for The Story||
|||||||increasing<br>visibility ofthe collection|in|
