Report of Trustees for accounting year 2024 (to be presented at AGM 8[th] July 2025)

As will be clear from the Annual Accounts, we are in a stronger position financially and have been husbanding our resources carefully. After receiving an Organisational Sustainability grant from Point North (formerly County Durham Community Foundation) we plan to engage a Freelance Development Worker, to work 8 hours per week from January 2025. This will enable to us to progress our business planning and bid writing.

Lease and Building Plans

DCC are the Custodian Trustees of the Community Centre. However, they would like to retire from this. It is hoped that DCC’s Cabinet will agree on this in 2025. A new 50-year lease with Lambton Estates is being negotiated, to be signed once DCC have retired as Custodian Trustees.

Once the Lease is in place we will be able to apply for major grants for refurbishing the building. We are planning a phased refurbishment to include the heating, wiring, lighting, toilets, main hall floor, and inner doors. DCC will carry out a Feasibility Study, and we have ambitious plans to upgrade the building for future use.

User Groups

Thanks to another grant from Point North, we have just set up Mini Melodies and will start Get Fit NE seated chair exercise in the new year (2025). These join the many groups currently using the Centre, including the Monday Cafe, the SYP youth groups, dog-training groups, Durham HiiT Club, clog-dancers, the Mona Lisa Art Group and many more. The Centre is also used for private events and family/community celebrations.

Fun Day

Thanks to funding from the Parish Council we were able to run a very successful Fun Day in June 2024 and have received another grant from the Parish Council to repeat this (first Sunday in June) in 2025.

We are grateful to have a strong, united and successful band of Trustees. The current trustees are: John Barclay (Chair); George Kendall (Treasurer); Lisa Walker (Bookings Secretary); Lillian Walker; Heather Liddle; Diana Barclay (Minutes Secretary); Donna Bruce (appointed by Plawsworth & Kimblesworth Parish Council).
