The prevention or relief of poverty by providing or assisting in the provision of welfare, education, healthcare projects and all the necessary infrastructure to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient.
Objectives and activities
Save Our World is a community charity to meet the needs of those who have suffered from war or natural disasters with the aim of providing aid and assistance through donations raised by the charity. The charity’s objectives can be classified as follows:
-
Providing welfare support through Orphan & Widow programmes
-
Establish income generation projects to transition beneficiaries away from reliance on donations
-
Providing relief, such as medical and food aid
-
Annual Ramadhan food distribution
-
Orphan Sponsorships
-
Annual Qurbani Distribution
-
Winter clothing appeal
-
Aid containers – Clothes, Shelter, Rice & Medical Equipment
Our beneficiary base comprises of Syrian refugees where the ever-increasing mass displacement of people is forcing people into extreme poverty and The Gambia where poverty levels of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition have remained unchanged or have worsened in the last ten years. The Gambia’s poverty rate remains at 48 percent.
In setting our objectives each year, we consider the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit.
Achievements and performance
Through the continued support from our local donor base, we continued to receive significant donations which allowed us to not only continue the support for eligible beneficiaries but increase the number of beneficiaries we have registered.
Whilst Syrian refugees and the projects in The Gambia continue to be main areas of focus, we were also able to expand our food and healthcare programmes to Pakistan which was severely impacted by the floods in 2022. With your generous donations we were able to provide aid and relief to the most poor and needy.
Locally, our ‘Container’ projects meant that we were able to send medical equipment, food items, shelters and blankets through generous donations.
Our strong relationships with our suppliers ensured that food aid continued throughout 202 2 and 202 3 with no impediments. Our status as a charity meant that rates were much more favorable as well.
The charity continues to forge bonds with local organizations to ensure that distribution can reach areas that would not normally be accessible without local knowledge. It is also fostering existing relationships to ensure the reputation of Save Our World is enhanced.
Structure, governance and management
The Charity is regulated by constitution dated February 2017. The Charity is run wholly on a voluntarily basis.
Appointment of charity trustees
Every trustee must be appointed by a resolution past at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.
Financial review and reserves policy
Funds available are sufficient to permit the Trust to continue in operation in the medium to long term, together with the continued support from the donors.
Our aim is to distribute funds as soon as possible in line with the objectives of the charity. There are no uncertainties about the charity continuing as a going concern.
The Trustees actively review all major risks which the Charity faces and drawn up a risk assessment which is reviewed at every meeting. The Trustees are satisfied that all systems are in place and arrangement have been made to manage any risks identified. The Trustees would like to thank all those who assisted us with their moral and financial support and trust they continue to do so.
