## **OBJECTIVES** 

To support prostate cancer Patients and families on the Isle of Wight, to highlight the health risk of Prostate Cancer to men, to raise funds to operatw the Charity in the areas of awareness, support and informing isle of Wight families of prostate cancer 

## **MAIN OBJECTIVES** 

Non medical support for Isle of Wight prostate cancer patients, their families and carers, raising awareness of its diagnosis, treatment, side effects and aftercare.   A regular forum for Isle of Wight prostate cancer patients, families and carers via monthly meetings, Newsletter, dedicated 24/7 mobile phone, website, social media using Face book, one to one counselling to discuss their experiences, concerns. queries. Treatments and future needs. 

A fundraising campaign to enable the group to function and run wellbeing events and PSA Blood testing programmes to supplement the lack of a screening programme for prostate cancer in the UK 

To provide access for patients, family, carers and the community to information and educational data to help them understand prostate cancer, their treatment choices and after care support via the Newsletter, website, flyers, leaflets and one to one discussions 

A programme of PSA testing and wellbeing events in partnership with organisations based on the Isle of Wight, including football clubs, rugby clubs Masonic lodges, Lions, Rotary and individual companies and charities to share the cost of these events.   All events were organised and run by volunteers 



## **SUMMARY OF MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS** 

12 Members meetings were organised with a variety of speakers, some of these meetings being a mixture of Prostate and general topics 

A special social event was a members Christmas lunch 

4 PSA testing events were run during the year, nearly 1100 men with a 10%  requiring a medical follow up 

4 Newsletters were produced and sent out to all members 

A telephone support and enquiry telephone lines in operation 

Ladies meetings were organised for wives of prostate cancer sufferers during the year 

We have set up a ghost address for the charity to protect our trustees 

The usual Christmas tree was set up at the Isle of Wight Pearl for 4 weeks 

A separate Bank account was set up to enable the PSA coordinator to run the events independently from our main account 

We continue to present to all our PSA patients a full range of leaflets to enable them to pass on information to the local community
