Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Kent Horse Rescue has achieved a lot in
the seventh year as a registered charity:

The cost of living crisis continues
to impact on the care of equines
as owners find it more difficult to
afford their upkeep. This also has
had an impact on donations from
the general public to charities.
However, we continue to receive
the support of Grant Trust
Organisations and Kent Horse
Rescue followers, who trust in
our work, ethics and objectives.
– this helps us continue to help
more horses throughout Kent,
Essex, Sussex, Surrey and
beyond.

We have continued our services,
support and advice for members
of the public whom are
struggling to care for their
equine/s due to unforeseen
circumstances (financial and/or
health problems), and have
assisted with advice and taking
into care equines for
**rehabilitation and re-homing. **
We have received and assisted
with an increased number of calls
again over last year; from the
public, landowners and local
authorities, concerned for the
welfare and support of horses
locally.
We have responded to calls
where hprses have been
neglected, abandoned, and mis-
treated, or ‘dumped to die’.
We rescued / received into care
more horses and ponies than last
year, and attended, assisted and
helped to resolve many more
cases through advice on welfare,
procedure, legislation and local
resources to assist horses in
need.
We have rehabilitated all horses
brought ‘into-care’, and have had
great success in re-homing to
suitable homes.
The Website continues to provide
a valuable source of assistance
for the public: The Charity has
received more daily calls and
emails from the public via the
website, responding with advice,
contacting relevant land owners /
authorities and attending on site
where possible.
Social Media has in excess of
4,000 followers and growing, and
provides an almost instant
contact point and response
facility.

Achievements against
objectives set
Para 1.41 We are pleased with the number of call
outs responded to, and the number of
equines we have been able to
rehabilitate, helped hugely by the
support of local Vets, our successful
rehabilitation programme, and the
income and donation funding as
mentioned above.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41 Fundraising has been affected by the
cost of living crisis, but supplemented
by grant funding from various charitable
trusts. Donations received were mainly
as the result of members of the public /
supporters donating from their own
pockets, rather than fundraising
activities. We also have supporters who
have sponsored a horse from intake,
helping to fund medical care and
rehabilitation.
Investment performance

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 We have maintained overheads at a low
level, to a very efficient level – all
donations and grants etc. go directly to
the care of the horses. Expenditure was
less than income, and we sustained
adequate cash flow. We also had
exceptional costs for vehicles,
equipment and facility maintenance,
which were accommodated. Veterinary
costs, feed and bedding were high due
to the large number of horses coming
into care.
