Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Kent Horse Rescue has achieved a lot in the fourth year as a registered charity: • The Covid-19 crisis and lockdown started at the beginning of our year, severely impacting normal operations, fundraising, etc. However, due to grant support from various animal/equine and other charitable trusts, we have been able to continue our rescue/rehabilitation/re-homing services, albeit adapted due to emergency lockdown protocols. • We have continued our services, support and advice for members of the public whom are struggling to care for their equine/s due to unforeseen circumstances, and have assisted with advice and also taken in equines for re- homing. Re-homing in the year has been restricted due to the |
| Covid crisis, increasing our costs | |
|---|---|
| at the centre. | |
| • | We have received and assisted |
| with an increased number of calls | |
| on a daily basis from members of | |
| the public concerned for the | |
| welfare of horses locally. | |
| • | We rescued / received into care |
| as many horses than last year, | |
| and attended, assisted and | |
| helped to resolve many more | |
| cases through advice on welfare, | |
| procedure, legislation and local | |
| resources to assist horses in | |
| need. | |
| • | We have rehabilitated all horses |
| brought ‘into-care’, whilst re- | |
| homing has been restricted | |
| during the year due to lockdowns. | |
| • | The Website provides a valuable |
| source of assistance for the | |
| public: The Charity has received | |
| more daily calls and emails from | |
| the public via the website, | |
| responding with advice, | |
| contacting relevant land owners / | |
| authorities as a result and | |
| attending on site where possible. | |
| • | Social Media has in excess of |
| 4,000 followers and growing, and | |
| provides an almost instant | |
| contact point and response | |
| facility. |
Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:
| Achievements against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | We are pleased with the number of call outs responded to and the number of equines we have been able to rehabilitate, helped hugely by emergency grant funding as mentioned above. |
|---|---|---|
| Performance of fundraising activities against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | Fundraising have been severely restricted due to the Covid crisis, but supplemented by emergency grant funding from various charitable trusts. Donations received were as the result of members of the public / supporters donating from their own pockets, rather than fundraising activities. |
| Investment performance against objectives |

Financial Review
| Financial Review | ||
|---|---|---|
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | We have maintained overheads at a low level, to a very efficient level by reducing rent last year. Expenditure did not exceed income and we sustained adequate cash flow. Covid crisis increased costs due to not being able to re-home horses, but emergency grant funding (in lieu of reduced fundraising ability) maintained our activities. We also had exceptional costs for vehicle, and facility maintenance, which was accommodated. |
