2. Trustees Annual Report 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 - CEO Report
As the CEO of Woody's Lodge, I reflect with immense pride on the transformative journey our charity has undertaken, profoundly impacting the lives of our armed forces, emergency service communities, and their families across Wales. From its inception, Woody's Lodge has been a sanctuary—a place of solace and support—reflecting the vision of Paul "Woody" Woodland, RM SBS. His dream of peace and camaraderie in the countryside continues to guide and inspire our mission.
The dedication and commitment of our staff and volunteers have been extraordinary. They have consistently created a safe, inclusive environment where our beneficiaries can access vital services, participate in enriching activities, and foster meaningful connections. Over the past year, we have faced an unprecedented surge in demand for our services—a testament to the trust placed in Woody’s Lodge and the growing need within our community. However, this surge has also occurred against the backdrop of significant financial challenges.
The ongoing cost of living crisis has deeply impacted veterans, emergency service personnel, and their families, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet. This has amplified the urgency of our mission but also placed enormous strain on our charity’s resources. Rising operational costs have made it increasingly difficult to maintain the high quality and accessibility of the services we provide. Despite these challenges, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to supporting those who rely on us.
The growth of Woody's Lodge has been substantial. More individuals than ever are turning to us for assistance with benefit claims, housing support, and navigating complex mental and physical health challenges. The social connections and sense of belonging cultivated within our community have proven invaluable, providing a network of support that extends far beyond our physical hubs.
Our achievements this year would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our funders, including the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (ACFT), Veterans Foundation, and the Garfield Weston Foundation (GWF). These partnerships have been instrumental in allowing us to expand our services, ensuring that we can continue to meet the growing needs of our beneficiaries.
Looking ahead, we are filled with hope and determination. We are committed to adapting our services to meet the evolving needs of our community, refining our offerings, and exploring innovative ways to enhance our efficiency and impact. While we navigate these financial challenges, we remain focused on sustaining the high standards for which Woody’s Lodge is known.
Collaboration will remain at the heart of our strategy. By strengthening existing partnerships and forging new ones, we aim to create an even more comprehensive support network. Sharing best practices and working closely with third-party organisations will enable us to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of those we serve.

________________ As we embark on this next chapter, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our funders, partners, staff, volunteers, and, most importantly, our beneficiaries. Your resilience, camaraderie, and unwavering support are the foundation of all we do.
The journey of Woody’s Lodge, from a humble "table and kettle" to a network of hubs, dropin centres, and unique woodland sites, is a testament to the collective dedication of everyone involved. Together, we have built a beacon of hope and support for our armed forces, emergency service communities, and their families—a legacy we will continue to uphold with pride and purpose.
Mission Statement
Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of our armed forces, emergency service communities, and their families in Wales and beyond.
