Chair’s Report
It’s been a very busy year for us in terms of fundraising, with enormous efforts at Netherton Boat Show and some new previously unexplored new channels of funding from local businesses. We had some invaluable help from Dudley Council for Voluntary Service and our local Tesco helped us with a range of raffles and prizes for events too.
Much of our focus for the first term was on comedy horror, the Juniors explored well known characters and storylines from the genre. They all had a lot of fun, developing larger than life roles and terrifying scenes. At the same time, the Juniors stretched their skills in using physicality and voice. Their work culminated in the performance and hosting of a Halloween event and family fun night which raised a healthy chunk towards our funding for the year.
In terms 2 & 3, the Juniors created their own devised piece on the theme of Treasure Island. They loved playing the notorious characters and relished adding their own ideas and interpretations to the plot. The performance took an enormous effort from the team, Juniors learned to adapt to traverse staging and took part in fight sequences that had to be expertly choreographed. This amazing performance reflected our member’s enormous creativity and promising performance skills.
We are beginning to look a little healthier financially but unfortunately, it’s no time to rest up. COVID and the loss of important Trustees has taught us that we constantly need to have events, bids or performances on the go in order to keep us ticking over. Maybe after a year or so of maintaining a healthier bank balance, we can begin to think of ways to expand and grow in strength.
I would like to express my thanks to the volunteer staff, trustees and parents who have supported us over the last few years. It has been incredibly tough and without your tireless efforts and optimism, the show simply wouldn’t have gone on.
