Achievements and Perforniance The actlvities of the club and support gKven to our members continued In th8 same vein at the beginning of the year as in the prevlous year owing to the irnpact of the COVID pandemic. The Friday Lunch Club and Tuesday Support Evenings wère suspended at this time to help protect our members, most of which are highly vulnerable. from cross contamination of the virus, and owing to government rnstrictlons at that time. However, whllst the sesslons were suspended we contlnued to maintain contact and provide support where possible to our members. This Included twice weekly telephone calls to check on thelr welfarei provide verbal support and offor any assistance should it be requlrod. Pwa 1.xs Th& arrlval of slightly wamier weather and a rnlaxatlon of COVID related restrlctlons meant that In Aprll we worn ablo to 8tarttaklng the club to membe8 back gardens for Aft•rnoon Teas In Ileu of the Friday Lunch Club. These had to be quite small gatherlngs {no mor• than slx) and werg vory well recelved. They also providèd the opportunlty for the Gharlty to offer more personal support to Its membors particularly to those who103t frlonds and relatlves durfng the pandemlc. At the beglnnlng of June we were able to commence a phased rèstart of the Friday Lunch Club sessions at our new vènue. the Charcoal Burner in Furnace Green. The Landlord here has very klndly allowed u3 to use one of his rooms free of charge and has proved to be a great supporter of the charity. Whllst the number of memberJ wern restricted initially, this was quickly raised during the month as COVID restrictions bocame more relaxed. In July the Friday Lunch Club was operating without restriction on numbers. New procodures were put In place at every stage to comply with COVID restrictions and recommended procedures to malntaln best practico. Tuesday support evenings also recommenced in Ju and have been a
great source of support for attending members. Apart from a short period from mid- Decemberto the beginning of February, when the Tuesday and Friday session were suspended due to a spike in Covid infections. the charity continued to delivor the Friday Lunch Club and Tuesday support evenings. The Friday Lunch Club bounced back quickly following the impact of Covid with avernge weekty numbers rea¢hlng 21 towards the end of the period. The Tuesday Support evenings have also been well attended with a number of faces joinlng from tlmè to tlme. W• put 4 lot of *torn by all those who help run the club, but that should never over shadow the input of everyone 4$8ociatsd with thè charlty. He doesn't $8em to reallso that by belng wlth us and 8harlng hi$ experience of Ilving with dementia h• Is educating all of us. Our maln alm 18 supporting the carers of those looking after loved ones, that said, we all benefit from understanding how it f8813 to livo wlth and be confused by dèmentia. Thls year ha8 been challenglng for us all. Many lost thelr battle with dementia. We still live with the effects of COVID and poor health ha3 affocted many of our family. It has felt Ilke a year of trying to catch up. Grants recèlved from Crawley Borough Councll 1£5k) this yoar and Independent Age 1£12.9kl towards the end of the prevlous yoar have been key to tho charity being In a position to contlnuo providlng the same 8UPPOrt and guldance as usual. In Ilno wlth the ¢harlty'S overall objectlve8. Opportunities to raise funds and attract donations were vory few. but the value received was, nonetheless, significantly more than the prevlous year thanks to a very generous donatlon from Glencore who ran a raffle that generated £1 Ok for the benafft of the ¢harlty. Whilst income from subscrlptions resumed. this was still lower than pro- Covid as the number of Tuesday support evenings and Friday lunch sessions held were severely restricted In ternis of numbers able to attend and owing to the complete suspension of these activities for part of the year. Overall Income reduced from £23.6k to £21.6k Expendfture increasod slightly from £16.5k to £17.3k mostly due to costs associated with the resumption of Tuesda and Frida sessions. A review
of staff working processes generated a small reduction of staff costs which totslled £12.2K down from £13.3k. Both our coordinators continued to support members whilst the sessions were suspended with twice weekly tslephone Calls to check on their welfare, provide verbal support and checking whether they need any shopping or prescriptions collectsd. Overall the charlty delivered a Surplus of £4k for the year with totsl funds reaching £79k of which £68k Is rlng. fenced.
