Trustee Annual Statement 2023-2024
This year has seen a number of changes regarding the charity infrastructure and day to day routine due to both professional and personal circumstances. They have presented many challenges but as always we have done our best to keep the fundraising going g to support Chaddy Mission School and so all that we can to ensure that we support the continuation of a free education, feeding programme and community support for all this who benefit from our work.
This year has seen some success with the school continuing to be successful in proving a primary certificate of education free of charge to a growing number of students each year and staff turnover has dramatically reduced thanks to being able to provide funding towards the school’s day to day costings. As always we hope that this opportunity of a free education with go on to help the community have a brighter future and progress onwards. The school has largely remained unchanged with not many building projects or maintenance needed this year thankfully as fundraising and resources have been significantly lower for the charity.
Our trustee John climbed Kilimanjaro in aid of the charity, which was an incredible success and our biggest fundraiser for the year alongside a fantastic donation from Reverend Tony Luke who had done his own fundraising following a visit to the school in Kenya. The reverend noted that the children had nowhere to play and took it upon himself to raise money for a players at the school. Of course as a charity we supported this fantastic idea of much resulted in a slide and some swings for the children at the school.
Unfortunately the charity is now in a position where we are struggling to continue. Since the loss of our previous trustee in charge of fundraising and events we have had no event apart from a Christmas fair. John, our co founder, has now retired and moved home resulting in him stepping down as chair of the charity and requesting that myself as co-founder step into the role officially as the lead of the charity. However this has been a struggle, with other trustees beginning to step back due to other priorities and myself being a full time carer for a family member alongside working a full time job, the charity is becoming more difficult to prioritise.
All our trustees our voluntary and do what we can with the time we have. Our hearts are all committed to the cause but going forward a serious consideration is needed as to whether the charity can continue. A priority going forward will be to see if we can widen our net of volunteers, reach out to see if there are additional trustees that we could recruit on a
completely voluntary basis to help with fundraising and social media so that we can try to continue. The charity is currently at a transition where difficult decisions need to be made to ensure that we can move forward and continue our work effectively.
I move forward as always looking with the intention to seek solutions to our problems, to continue our mission and with prayers that our charity can continue to do the incredible work that we set out to do.
