Annual report 2022-2023
Another challenging year for the charity as we continue to suffer from the difficulties of trying to establish our routines and fundraising events following a break of activities. Last year we decided to focus more on organised events moving forward. However, the venues that usually support us with reduced or free facilities have been impacted with rising costs and are no longer able to do this, significantly impacting our capacity to put on events for a decent profit.
We did have great success again with out Christmas Fair this year with good attendance and have gained a good reputation for hosting the event annually. We looked forward to again providing this event later on in the year and hope to continue to with this. As a team we have discussed in depth the input that goes into our events versus the output and have decided to no longer host our summer fayre events. For the time and effort that goes into them, plus the rise in financial costs for hosting such events it is unfortunately no longer something that we feel is worth investing in. A huge part of this decision also comes from a change within the trustee team.
Just at the end of the latest tax year, we did an official handover meeting from John Savill, our chair to the new nominated chair Jenny Roberts. John and Jenny have always worked alongside each other as chair and vice chair since founding the charity together. John decided that he was at a time in his life where he was ready to step down and it was a unanimous decision amongst the trustees for Jenny to step up from vice chair to chair. Thankfully John remains with us as a trustee and continues to support the charity. Another change to the trustee team came with the departure of Zoe Carter, our social media and events co-ordinator. Zoe has been an incredible asset to the charity with her knowledge, skills and networking gaining the charity events a great reputation with contacts that continue to support our events year after year. For this the charity will be forever grateful. We our sad to see her leave the charity but wish her well with her promotion and new career and she departs her voluntary trustee position in the charity to focus on this.
Thankfully we were able to welcome a new social media and event co-ordinator in Sharon Salt, A long time supporter of Chaddy Mission Kenya who has also spent time volunteering at Chaddy Mission School in Kenya so has a really good understanding of the core values of the charity and a passion to support us. Sharon has already brought us new ideas for events.
With a number of changes within the charity, such difficulties in fundraising from our events this year and the loss of one of our biggest annual donations from January 2023, it has been decided for the charity to regroup and consider a long term strategy. The next few months may be quiet for activity as we reflect on the last 12months and consider the best fundraising action plan going forward. We have faith that our new team will continue to do great work but to ensure the longevity of the charity we need to consider how to move forward with an action plan of more consistent funding throughout the year.
