Objectives and Activities

The aim of the Pre-School and Flying Start setting is to provide a happy, caring, stimulating, and safe environment that enhances the development and education of pre-school children in Wales. We support and encourage families to understand and meet the needs of their children through highquality early years provision and childcare.

The main purpose of the charity is to provide high-quality childcare to the local community and surrounding areas. Our core aim is to promote the development of young children and to support parents and carers in meeting their children's needs.

We achieve this by:

Through all of this, we are committed to nurturing the well-being, learning, and holistic development of every child in our care.

Enfys Fach Policies and Procedures

2

Summery of the Charity’s year

At Enfys Fach, we continue to prioritise a child-centred, holistic approach to early years development, where every child is valued, heard, and supported. Our ethos of nurturing well-being, independence, curiosity, and community connection has been embedded across all aspects of our provision this year.

Children’s Voice and Holistic Development

We remain committed to ensuring every child has a voice in shaping their learning experiences. Through in-the-moment planning and continuous observation, practitioners respond to children’s interests and developmental needs. Floor books, the home-from-home photo board, and independence-based routines such as rolling snack time support emotional well-being and belonging.

Enriched Learning Environments

Children benefit from a rich indoor and outdoor learning environment, including a curiosity station with changing weekly themes and an enhanced creative area. Our "Artist of the Month" programme, visits from local professionals, and community engagement events like World Book Day and Cathedral visits provide meaningful, real-world experiences. These deepen children’s understanding of their identity and their Cynefin (sense of place).

Outdoor Learning and Community Garden

Outdoor learning remains a core strength, with regular Forest School sessions, park visits, and our thriving community garden/allotment. Here, children engage in hands-on learning, develop life skills, and build a connection with nature through planting, harvesting, and outdoor exploration. The garden has become a hub for emotional well-being, healthy eating, teamwork, and creativity.

Transitions and Assessment

Transitions from Flying Start are carefully supported through collaboration with families and professionals. One-page profiles, baseline assessments, and Wellcomm data ensure continuity. Observations and evaluations are used to inform tailored planning, supporting progress through the five developmental pathways.

Emotional Well-being and Staff Expertise

Our setting has strengthened its emotional well-being provision. Six staff have completed Incredible Beginnings training, and our manager is trained in ELSA, SSTEW, and is now a qualified Mental Health First Aider. We will launch the Solihull Parenting Programme to further support families. Staff benefit from ongoing professional development through regular sessions and reflective practices.

Community and Family Engagement

Family engagement has flourished with monthly activity invites, seasonal events, and access to unique experiences such as animal visits and swimming weekends. We also provide practical support and links to agencies including health visitors, speech and language therapists, and the Early Help team, helping to remove barriers to support.

Inclusive Practice and Safeguarding

Staff are highly trained in safeguarding, and policies are regularly reviewed and shared with families via our app. Our inclusive approach is strengthened through collaboration with external agencies and targeted support using the TYFU framework and SMART targets.

3

Leadership and Staff Development

Leadership remains strong, with clear vision and open communication. Committee involvement, regular supervisions, and development opportunities (including Level 3 and 4 qualifications) ensure a reflective, motivated team. Monitoring and evaluation are embedded in daily practice and strategic planning.

Creative, Cultural, and Language Development

Music, arts, and Welsh language learning are embedded in daily routines. Children enjoy exposure to different musical genres, participate in artist-led sessions, and explore language through songs, rhymes, and visits from Welsh performers.

Mathematics and Literacy

Through play and real-life experiences, children engage with early maths and literacy in meaningful contexts. We build confidence in problem-solving, communication, and creative expression, fostering skills for lifelong learning.

This yearly overview captures the key developments and ongoing priorities at Enfys Fach. It reflects a setting that is inclusive, dynamic, and deeply committed to the growth and well-being of children, families, and staff.

As a setting, our mission remains to ensure that all children attending Enfys Fach transition to school as:

We continue to achieve these outcomes by focusing on our three core principles:

Enabling Adults, Engaging Experiences, and Effective Environments .

We are pleased to report that we have now successfully moved into our new premises, which has significantly enhanced our capacity and the overall quality of provision. We are now registered for 35 children, allowing us to meet increasing demand for high-quality childcare in the local area.

The new building offers increased space, flexibility, and improved facilities, enabling us to expand our range of activities and support. These improvements benefit not only the children and staff but also their families and the wider community.

Outdoor learning remains a key priority at Enfys Fach. When asked about their favourite place to play, the majority of children consistently choose the outdoors. In response, we are investing further in developing a rich, inviting outdoor environment at our new setting. We are also fortunate to

Our setting manager, Amie, who is trained and experienced in delivering forest school sessions with young children, is leading this exciting development. Her knowledge is being shared across the team and with families to maximise the benefits of outdoor education.

We have also successfully implemented a new digital app to streamline communication with families. The app is now used for attendance registers, daily diaries, observations, and invoicing, significantly reducing our paper usage. Feedback from staff and families has been overwhelmingly positive, with improved transparency and engagement.

Recent parent and child questionnaires, as well as setting evaluations from our Early Years and Flying Start advisory staff have provided positive feedback, highlighting strong relationships, a nurturing environment, and effective leadership and management.

Looking ahead, we are excited about the opportunities that our new premises bring. We remain committed to offering inclusive, high-quality early years education and care, rooted in a strong sense of community, child-led learning, and respect for each child’s voice and individuality.

Current Priorities for the year ahead

1. Equal Opportunities in a Nurturing and Welcoming Environment

2. Child-Centred Curriculum Based on Interests, Curiosity, and the Natural World

3. Free-Flow, Reggio-Inspired Indoor/Outdoor Learning with Focus on Nature

4. Practitioners as Observant Facilitators and Shared Understanding of Progress

Financial review

Further Financial information

Enfys Fach setting receives funding from the local authority through both the 3 & 4-Year-Old Early Education funding and Flying Start funding.

Funding (£6.40 per hr) covers morning educational provision 9am – 11am or 1pm – 3pm. For sessions beyond this time, costs are either:

Flying start funds us for the number of staff we have for the children we are allocated. We are able to offer childcare for up to 16 children at a time meaning we have 4 members of staff within this room to ensure ratio’s are met.

This structure allows us to offer flexible, high-quality childcare and education, tailored to meet the needs of our families while maintaining accessible, affordable provision.
