## **MINUTES OF TRUSTEES MEETING FOR FINANCIAL YEAR 2021-2022**

Absent: Charity Founder Kevin Baker is no longer able to actively participate in the charity due to a long term health condition.
## **OVERVIEW**
- The charity continues to operate with day to day administration carried out by Christine Elford with the support of Nikki Edwell.
- Nikki Edwell, Christine Elford and Moira Burgess continue as trustees.
## **MEMBERSHIP:**
- This year the membership has grown to over 9200.
## **DOGS:**
- During this year, the Charity has fostered and rehomed 9 West Highland White Terriers - Lenny Misty Sandy Harley Mitzy Albie Otis Jack and Mac.
- We note that the number of dogs that we have rehomed this year is significantly below the number we were rehoming prior to the Covid Pandemic. Whilst the number of dogs has reduced, we have noted a large increase in the number of families looking to adopt and submitting application forms.
- Westie Rescue UK continues to support all dogs that are adopted through the Charity by covering the medical costs of any ongoing pre-existing condition. This includes dogs with diabetes, skin conditions and ongoing behavioural issues. In this financial year we supported dogs in veterinary and behavioural costs amounting to £19,519.56.
- Sadly we have lost three WRUK rescues this year: Tina (May 2022) Kip (January 2022) Mac (August 2021) . Some spent only a short time with their furever family and others much longer, but all spent their last days in happy and loving homes.

## **VOLUNTEERS, DONORS AND FOSTERERS:**
- The charity is indebted to the volunteers who have rescued and fostered dogs, carried out home checks and raised funds. The charity continues to receive support from other groups who have helped with home checks and carry out regular westie walks to support Westie Rescue UK and raise funds. We are very grateful for all of their contributions.
- We would like to specifically recognize the following foster carers who have taken dogs as a first port of call prior to rehoming to the forever homes, as well as providing long term foster care:
Pauline Crook Deb Neiland Louise James Rebecca and Andrew Loss
and Kathryn Montague
- The charity also wishes to acknowledge and thank all of the members who have regularly contributed through donation, fundraisers and auctions.
## **FINANCES:**
- The charity bank account is in credit and on 21st June had funds of £51,513.63, as a result of adoptions, donations, fundraising, bequests and sale of the WRUK Animal Ambulance.
- The charity has been grateful for regular contributions from Ayr and Colchester Westie Walkers. As a charity, Gift Aid applies, and this has been beneficial in enhancing donations.
- The charity has been extremely grateful for the bequests received this year including in excess of £10,000 from the estate of Pauline Williamson.
- Nikki Bailey has kindly provided support in relation to the Charity Accounts.
## **FUNDRAISING:**
- This takes the form of ongoing activities such as the monthly draw, and the annual birthday draw; items donated by members of the group for auction or raffle; sale of our WRUK Calendar and special one-off auctions/raffles.
- Pauline Crook has continued the responsibility for fund raising this year, with the support of Rebecca Loss.. Pauline and Rebecca continue as admin support for the WRUK Facebook fundraising page, group and Nothing Butt Westies.
- Pauline is a great support in welcoming new members and maintaining our online presence and the Trustees are grateful for her significant contribution.

- WRUK has three Facebook groups:
Westie Rescue UK (WRUK) Registered Charity,
Westie Rescue UK Fundraising Page and
Nothing Butt Westies.
All have significant membership and fulfil different functions.
- Westie Rescue UK has continued to operate a “Birthday Draw” in which one supporter receives £365.00. The 2021-2022 winner of this draw was Fiona Tully who has been a supporter of Westie Rescue UK since it began.
- Fundraising during the 2021-2022 year was limited due to the impact of the Covid Pandemic. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported our fundraising events.

## **Independent examiner's Report to the members of Westie Rescue UK (WRUK)**
I report on the accounts of Westie Rescue UK (WRUK) for the year ended 21 June 2022.
## **Respective responsibilities of members and examiner**
The trustee's consider that an audit is not required for this year and that an independent examination is needed. The charity have provided book-keeping records from which a member of staff has prepared Receipts and payments accounts and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of ACCA.
It is my responsibility to examine the accounts and state whether particular matters have come to my attention. The report is made solely to the Trustees of Westie Rescue UK (WRUK), in accordance with the terms of my engagement letter dated 14 September 23 June 2018. I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the Trustees of Westie Rescue UK (WRUK) for this report.
As a practising member firm of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, I am subject to its ethical and other professional requirements which are detailed at

## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts produced from banking spreadsheets to the records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the charity concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view" and the report is limited to any matters set out in the next statement.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no material matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that the requirements to:
i) keep accounting records in accordance Charity Commission Receipts and payments accounts guidance and template.; and
ii) prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records.
