The Trustees are pleased to present their report, together with the financial statements for the year ended 31 October 2025.

## **Objectives and activities** 

The primary purpose of the charity is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for playing cricket. 

## **Public Benefit** 

The Trustees have given careful consideration to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit: 

- Membership of the club is open to all comers. We had 85 adult members (male and female combined) and 140 junior members in 2025. There is no test of skill for membership; 

- Junior open training sessions are held each Tuesday from April to July. In addition 16 one-hour ‘All Stars’  and ‘Dynamos’ sessions are provided for younger children throughout the summer; 

- Ladies open training sessions are held, in conjunction with Great Melton CC, from April to August; 

- Senior open training sessions are held each Wednesday from April to August; 

- The club benchmarks its match fees and membership subscriptions against other local cricket and sports clubs to ensure affordability; 

- No charge is made for admission for spectators wishing to watch matches 

## **Achievements and performance** 

- The club was able to carry out a full range of cricketing activities; 

- The first team finished sixth in the men’s East Anglian Premier League; 

- The second team were unfortunately relegated from Norfolk Cricket Alliance premier division; 

- The third and fourth teams maintained their status in Norfolk Cricket Alliance Divisions four and six respectively; 

- Each of our sides regularly fielded a host of players under 18 years of age. Girls and women also frequently played in the ‘men’s’ teams; 

- The ladies team teamed up with Great Melton CC winning 4 out of 8 matches in the Iceni Women’s League Division 1. They also won the Norfolk Cricket Foundation Women’s Softball cricket League group E. Two girls teams, in the Under-11 and Under-13 age groups, competed in Norfolk Cricket Foundation competitions; 

- The youth section fielded teams at the ages of under 9, 11, 13 and under 19 with two teams at under 15 years. One of the under 15 teams consisted predominantly of girls. The age groups teams performed well: 

   - The under 9s reached the county final losing by 1 run; 

   - The under 11s also reached the final of their county competition; 

   - The under 13s reached the semi final; 

   - The under 19s won their county final for the fourth time in the nine years since the competition has been staged; 

- The club was able, with the support of Norwich CEYMS, to open its outdoor net facilities at its Hilltops ground to enable club members to practice for free. This led to more than 151 bookings being made resulting in more than 647 hours of practice across all members of the club; 

- Participation levels for Tuesday evening youth coaching sessions (from April to July) consistently approached 75 per week; 

- More than 90 children were registered for the ‘All Stars ’and  ‘Dynamos’ sessions (the highest in Norfolk); 

- As an ECB Disability Champion Club in partnership with Norfolk Cricket Foundation, Swardeston once again staged a series of cricket sessions for local SEND pupils during the summer school holidays;

## **Achievements and performance (continued)** 

- 3 club members won volunteer awards at the Norfolk Cricket Foundation awards: o Pat Hall won the lifetime achievement award; o Lawrence De Coteau won coach of the year; 

   - Joe Beadman was runner up in the game changer category; 

- With the aid of an ECB grant, the club was able to lead a project to renovate the village hall kitchen. The kitchen was the original one installed more than 30 years ago. With additional funding from the cricket club, Swardeston Social Club and Swardeston Village Hall, the renovation delivered a brand new fit-for-purpose kitchen for all hall users; 

- The club continued to carry out social activities. The highlight was the 36[th] Club Dinner held in March with guest speaker Lord Ian Botham which sold 365 tickets, a record for the club. 

## **Financial review** 

Total receipts amounted to £53,853 (2024: £48,579). After payments of £57,866 (2024: £48,463), the net deficit for the period was £4,013 (2024: net surplus £116). 

The Trustees consider the year end position to be satisfactory and confirm the charity can meet all known obligations. 

## **Reserves policy** 

- Our policy on reserves is to cover our approximate average annual running costs by a multiple of two. With running costs (excluding one off expenditures) usually totalling around £49k, target reserves are therefore around £98k. As at 31 October 2025 reserves amounted to £80,311 (2024: £84,324). 

## **Plans for the future** 

- The club is planning to continue to provide coaching, training and playing opportunities to players of all ages and backgrounds 

- The club will continue to invest in equipment and facilities that will enable it to improve the training and playing experience for all players and spectators

## **Structure, governance and management** 

## **Governing document** 

Swardeston Cricket Club was established as a foundation CIO on 22 June 2017 and registered with the Charity Commission (registration number 1173532). On 1 November 2017 the assets and activities of the unincorporated club of the same name were transferred to the CIO. 

## **Appointment and recruitment of Trustees** 

- The charity consists of seven Trustees. The charity’s constitution states that the Charity, at any one time, must have no fewer than three and no more than eight Trustees 

- In the event there are Trustee vacancies, the approach is to consider any skill sets not adequately covered by the existing Trustees and to examine whether an interested party could usefully provide these skills 

## **Trustees’ induction and training** 

All new Trustees will be provided with copies of: 

- The charity’s constitution 

- The latest accounts of the charity 

and are encouraged to read Charity Commission guidance notes CC3 -“The Essential Trustee, what you need to know, what you need to do.” 

In addition, Trustees are encouraged to read Charity Commission and other newsletters and to attend courses designed to keep them abreast of their duties and responsibilities.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2025 which are set out on pages 5 to 6. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records
