To provide financial assistance to individuals who are suffering from cancer in London and the surrounding areas in order to promote and protect their physical and mental health. |
|---|---|
| Trustees have had regard to the public benefit guides when making decisions that they are relevant to. The charity spent the year fundraising and operating the charity’s grant giving scheme. The following statement summarises the way in which the charity will contribute to the public good. “Kay’s Endeavours (Registered Charity Number 1173531) acts as a support fund for cancer patients. It will offer grants to adults who have a cancer diagnosis and are being treated at St Bartholomew's Hospital. Many cancer patients are unable to work temporarily or permanently because of their illness and / or the side effects of the treatments and medication that they receive. Members of their family may also have reduced earnings if they need to stop work or work less in order to care for the patient. They and their families may have many and complex needs in terms of trying to maintain their physical and mental wellbeing whilst dealing with the illness. The charity's aim is to provide funding for measures which will improve the quality of life of the patient and / or their family and to address any gaps in the support which is already available. This could include funding for equipment, medical aids, travel expenses or social / recreational activities.” 38 applications were received during the year for variety of support including: travel costs for attending hospital for treatment; financial support for living expenses; clothing and other personal items (e.g. wigs); household items to help with issues connected to health; food and utility bills; and breaks to recover from treatment. Below are some of the responses from the recipients of the grants: “Thanks so much for this, I've received it. I really appreciate the support.” “much appreciated in these hard times” “My mum is thanking you a lot” “Thank you so much, I'm very grateful for this.” |
