THE NALDER TRUST

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE TRUSTEE FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024

Reference and Administration Details

Registered Charity Number: 1173530 Address: The Parish Council Office, 70B Brookley Road, Brockenhurst, SO42 7RA Sole Trustee: Brockenhurst Parish Council

Structure, Governance and Management

The Nalder Trust was established under the will of Frances Louisa Lydia Nalder dated 24.01.1987 and registered as a charity in 2017.

The Charity is governed by The Nalder Trust Administration Deed 2018.

Objectives and Activities

To use the bequest for the provision of homes for old people and for no other purpose whatsoever and to use its best endeavours to ensure that the proposals are carried into effect and that the property or properties purchased by the council with the bequest is or are collectively named "Nalder House".

Achievements and Performance

The past year, tenant-wise, has been a thankfully uneventful one, all four residents remain in place - and other than routine maintenance there is nothing untoward to report.

The Nalder Committee (a mix of both councillors and non-councillors) - who report to Brockenhurst Parish Council as the Sole Trustee, were exploring the possibility of constructing a small Almshouse development of our own - considerable time and effort was made, exploring possible funding opportunities and indeed, potential sites.

Not only is land scarce for construction, but the high cost within the village proved an obstacle that elsewhere would not have been quite such an issue - so, without shelving the idea completely, this will have to remain as a plan for the future.

The Trust is also to make preliminary enquiries as to extending the lease on the last remaining flat where this has not already been carried out. To not take this action diminishes the asset value and as the lease shortens further the cost of extending will increase. Reserves are adequate to complete the extension.

We are also looking to create a new website, entirely dedicated to the Nalder Trust - not only to present the full history of the Trust and indeed Miss Nalder herself, but also to heighten awareness and publicise the Trust (Many residents are unaware of its existence and/or purpose).

The website will provide a platform to also give details as to how donations or bequests can be made - allowing us to expand our portfolio, providing more homes for people who might otherwise not be able to remain in the village.

Overall, a quiet but successful year.

Financial Review

The Charity was able to keep the rental charges at a constant amount for the year ended 31 March 2023. An increase in cash reserves resulted primarily from a reduction in repairs and maintenance requirements this year.
