In our sixth year as a charity, the 5 original trustees remain. Going forwards, trustees will be recruited, appointed and trained by the existing trustees. No external persons are entitled to appoint trustees. Trustee meetings are normally held three times a year to review the financial and operational state of the charity and to make key strategic decisions. Activity currently remains small, but constantly high in quality, impactful and focussed on the charitable objects, and the trustees exchange updates via email. ## **Objectives & Activities** Goldfield Productions create 'adventures in sound' for everyone; we find ways of presenting music and art that transform the everyday into the extraordinary and reawaken our ears. The charitable objectives of the CIO are: - the advancement of education for the public benefit by the promotion of the arts, in particular, but not exclusively, the art of music - other solely charitable objects as defined by the Charities Act 2006, or any subsequent act, as determined from time to time by the trustees of Goldfield Productions, and delivered for the public benefit The charity’s activities to achieve the objects include the organisation and delivery of high quality cross-arts events for the public, concerts that regularly include contemporary and lesser known repertoire and delivery of regular education workshops to inspire and educate students at primary and secondary schools across the United Kingdom. ## **Achievements & performance** The trustees have had regard to Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. Between 1[st] April 2022 and 31[st] March 2023 Goldfield has delivered public concerts, storytelling productions for children and seen the release of an acclaimed album. The charity has maintained financial stability. ## Highlights include: ` **The creation of two new productions for younger audiences** : _Curious about Ralph Vaughan Williams?_ (January 2023) and _Curious About Peter and the Wolf?_ (March 2023) These two new productions combine Goldfield’s trademark storytelling and shadow puppetry with live music (violin and piano). Both shows also used newly created soundtracks. Much applauded for their ‘ _magical and unforgettable atmosphere'_ , _’wonderful storytelling’_ and ‘ _truly original way to bring music to young people’_ they have been seen by over 700 children in the Cambridgeshire area. Our **January 2022 Delphian recording** of Matt Kaner's clarinet quintet received superb reviews including 5 star reviews from BBC Music Mag and the Scotsman. 'Most striking of all is the clarinet quintet, At Night, which takes Goldfield into spaces full of mystery, yet never cold or alien' (BBC Music Magazine) ***** 'A starry cast of performers...The Goldfield Ensemble, led by clarinettist Kate Romano (who also contributes the thoughtful booklet essay) find the mercurial narrative in _At Night_ .' (Gramophone) 'The Goldfield Ensemble are first rate' (Arts Desk) 'The Goldfield Ensemble superbly help convey the storytelling in _At Night_ ' (Yorkshire Times) 3 Two concerts in 2022 (Cambridge & Lichfield Festival) marking the Vaughan Williams centenary included his little known chamber quintet. This led to a renewed interest in British repertoire for the ensemble. 2023 - 24 will see a return to our roots as a clarinet and string quartet with a focus on English music. With the support of the British Light Music Trust, we’ll be exploring a new, wider repertoire for clarinet and strings, focussing on small-scale lighter works written mostly for radio in the early part of the 20th century and finding ways to place originals or new arrangements (created by Kate Romano) into concert settings. ## Financial Review In this financial year, Goldfield Productions maintained its reserves and financial resilience. The opening balance is £16,228.92 (unrestricted funds) and the closing balance is £16,996. £6000 of this is designated reserves. In this FY, Goldfield’s sole source of income was earned income = £4700 (last FY £11,395) Expenditure on artist activity was £3943 (last FY £12,202). Support costs were £0 (last FY £615).
