1.19|Between April 2023 and April 2024, Crescent
Kids focused on delivering accessible, engaging
education and awareness for families affected by
sickle cell disease. We provided online education
sessions covering key topics such as navigating
school with a chronic illness, understanding
medical procedures, and promoting emotional
well-being. These sessions empowered parents
and carers with practical knowledge and helped
children feel seen and supported.
We also expanded our digital reach by launching
our YouTube channel and growing our presence
on Instagram and LinkedIn, sharing short,
informative videos featuring the voices and
experiences of young children living with sickle
cell. These child-led contributions helped to
humanize the condition, reduce stigma, and raise
awareness across wider society.
A key highlight this year was being selected to
deliver a TEDxNHS talk, giving us a national
platform to share the realities of living with sickle
cell from a parent-led perspective. This
opportunity amplified our message and inspired
wider conversations around health equity,
childhood chronic illness, and the power of lived
experience.
Our work has made a meaningful difference by
educating families, building community, and
giving children a platform to be heard. It has also| contributed to broader public understanding, helping shift perceptions and promote more inclusive support in schools, healthcare, and beyond. ## **Achievements and performance** |Summary of the main

significant progress in raising awareness and
supporting families affected by sickle cell disease
through accessible education and storytelling.
We delivered a series of online education
sessions for parents, carers, and professionals,
equipping them with practical tools to better
support children living with sickle cell. These
sessions helped reduce isolation, improve
confidence, and empower families to advocate
more effectively in healthcare and education
settings.
We also launched our YouTube channel and
continued to grow our community on Instagram
and LinkedIn, using these platforms to share
engaging, child-friendly educational videos. Much
of our content featured the voices of our young
volunteer contributors, giving children a platform
to share their experiences and be part of the
conversation. This not only built their confidence
but also helped reduce stigma by educating
wider audiences.
A key milestone was our invitation to speak at
TEDxNHS, where we shared the lived
experience of raising a child with sickle cell and
the gaps that still exist in support. This national
platform helped us reach new audiences, spark
meaningful dialogue, and advocate for more
inclusive systems.
