WISBECH LIONS CLUB

A CHARITABLE INCORPORATED ORGANISATION

NUMBER: 1173380

REPORTS AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR PERIOD ENDED 30 JUNE 2025

TRUSTEES REPORT: STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE

The Club operates under a CIO Constitution (Trust Deed).

There are seven trustees, who were appointed by the members of Wisbech Lions Club. Those trustees for the forthcoming year 2024-25 are detailed below.

The trustees manage the Club under the terms of the Club Constitution, make policy decisions and authorise grants in accordance with the grant making policy dated 2016.

SOURCES OF FUNDS

The main sources of income are fund raising events organised by the Club in the Wisbech locality. The Members are grateful for the support given by the citizens in this area.

The Club also usually holds several events throughout the year, which provide entertainment for those persons attending as well as being a source of income for the CIO.

The fundraising is undertaken mainly by the members of this Club, but additionally there are a small number of volunteers who assist when needed.

PUBLIC BENEFIT

The trustees are aware of the need to provide a public benefit: in so doing the CIO provides the following:

*Provision of financial assistance and equipment to needy persons and groups catering for individuals within the Wisbech and the surrounding locality, including those who are disadvantaged physically, mentally or educationally.

*Provision of financial assistance and equipment to local youth, recreational and sporting clubs.

*Making donations to national and international appeals for relief work in areas both inside and outside the UK, as well as relief donations to fellow Lions Clubs International members in needy areas.

Annual General Meeting – President’s Report 2024-25

PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2024-25

Our President Simon Crowson was taken ill, after nine months of his year. By the rules of the club and as Past President, I took over, as President, for the remaining three months. Lion Robert Norton stayed as Vice President.

The club had a handover at the end of the year at the Woolpack Terrington St John, when I handed the chain of office to Lion Robert Norton.

The Activities team have had an excellent year, once again, led by Lion Maureen Smart MJF. These activities have managed to keep, the Charity side, of the club ticking over. Some of the fairs the Wisbech Lions have attended this year include Armed Forces Day, Rockfest, Parson Dive Car Show, Easter Extravaganza, Rose fair and the usual Christmas runs and statics, all raising over £7500 for distribution to projects, and causes, in the Wisbech area.

In October the Lions had a stall at the Wisbech Horse Fair for a Halloween event, where the Lions were able to give away sweets and allow games to be played.

The Club is still collecting spectacles for the wider Lions Clubs Causes and also distributing the Message in a bottle, to promote safety noting medications for medics to find, should it be necessary.

A wreath was laid at the War memorial on behalf of the Wisbech Lions Club by the then President Lion Simon Crowson and a member, Lion Peter Freeman.

There was no Charter Event, to celebrate 52 years of fund raising for Wisbech area, this year, due to reasons beyond the club’s control. The focus is now on the 53[rd] year.

Sadly, some long standing members have left Wisbech Lions Club this year and recruiting new members has been low but a few new faces have settled into membership well. Lion Chris Gay

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

This year the Wisbech Lions Club took an unexpected direction, with the club suddenly requiring an interim Vice President and President. I was very pleased to be elected as the Vice President and really honoured to be the President in the forth coming year. I was happy to be able to support the President and bring a period of stability to the club when the elected President fell ill.

Personally, I have been involved with the club for a while and have loved being the Father Christmas for three years running and am looking forward to climbing aboard the sleigh, once again, this coming year.

To become Lion President in the next Lionistic year, with a new Treasurer and Secretary, feels slightly daunting but I am delighted that all the club’s principal officers will still be around to guide and advise.

During 2024-2025 year I took over Social Media and it appears to have generated some interest in the club, promoting social media with ‘meet a Lion’, which focuses on one member’s history and gives a brief bio about them.

Wisbech Lions Club is a small cog in a very large Lion wheel but belonging to Wisbech Lions Club our focus is on Wisbech and like everywhere, it has its issues but as long as members help with fundraising, the club will keep donating in the forthcoming year.

The clubs Vice President, Lion Chris Gay, has a huge shoulder to lean on and the outgoing secretary, Lion Bill Batrick M.J.F., is a stalwart of the club with a lot of advice and knowledge. Lion Marilyn Batrick is taking over Welfare for the club and will ensure monies go to deserving causes.

SECRETARY REPORT 2024 – 2025

After a period as Lion at Large, following a heart attack, thankfully, Lion Alan rejoined the club to take over the role of Secretary for a while. Lion Alan then had to leave due to ill health. President Lion Simon Crowson request I returned until the end of the Lion year.

Membership, as with all Club, had its ups and downs and we had a, long standing, member, Lions Avis Gilliatt, pass away and a newer member, Lion Anne Siwczyk, also passed. The Club did recruit several new members in 2024-2025.

As Secretary, emails were distributed from District to members and District Convention amendments were distributed to members for debate. Various invitations to other club charter events were also distributed among members.

The final figures for Membership to the Wisbech Lions Club for 2024-2025 are 17
