WISBECH LIONS CLUB
A CHARITABLE INCORPORATED ORGANISATION
NUMBER: 1173380
REPORTS AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR PERIOD ENDED 30 JUNE 2022
TRUSTEES REPORT: STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE
The Club operates under a CIO Constitution (Trust Deed).
There are eight trustees, who were appointed by the members of Wisbech Lions Club. Those trustees for the forthcoming year 2021-22 are detailed below.
The trustees manage the Club under the terms of the Club Constitution, make policy decisions and authorise grants in accordance with the grant making policy dated 2016.
SOURCES OF FUNDS
The main sources of income are fund raising events organised by the Club in the Wisbech locality. The Members are grateful for the support given by the citizens in this area.
The Club also usually holds several events throughout the year, which provide entertainment for those persons attending as well as being a source of income for the CIO. Those events have been severely curtailed by Coronavirus.
The fundraising is undertaken mainly by the members of this Club, but additionally there are a small number of volunteers who assist when needed.
PUBLIC BENEFIT
The trustees are aware of the need to provide a public benefit: in so doing the CIO provides the following:
*Provision of financial assistance and equipment to needy persons and groups catering for individuals within the Wisbech and the surrounding locality, including those who are disadvantaged physically, mentally or educationally.
*Provision of financial assistance and equipment to local youth, recreational and sporting clubs.
*Making donations to national and international appeals for relief work in areas both inside and outside the UK, as well as relief donations to fellow Lions Clubs International members in needy areas.

Annual General Meeting - 2021-2022 President’s Report
Post COVID 19 lockdown period
At the start of this year, our club meetings were on Zoom Members were still shielding or unable to leave their homes. The country was gradually coming out of an 18-month lockdown. Face to face meetings became possible in August. We reverted to Zoom in September and then members met face to face at Bygones and in December moved to new venue The Oasis Community Centre, as a larger room area provided a safer environment.
2021-2022 goals –
-
1) To increase overall membership by at least three members – we achieved this goal but then lost 5 members, one sadly passed away and four resigned in good standing.
-
2) To find ways to attract new younger members – we supported youth projects including Scouts going to camp in Korea, one person going to Honduras, youth football teams, University bursaries and more. We ran promotions through Friends of Wisbech Lions group that attracted almost 200 new members, many younger who got involved on activities.
-
3) To ensure we fundraise using all options available – we used PayPal Giving Fund, Facebook Donate, card reader at events, online raffles and more. Christmas fundraising events surpassed all previous years donations. Fundraising using Facebook helped local causes.
-
4) To provide community service where it is most needed – we maintained contact with other groups to help identify needs. Facebook page was effective in finding people in need. There are many examples of service in our records. In 2021-2022 we served 20000 people in some way and this year 23030. We ran a twin project with Rye Lions in Australia (hospital packs).
-
5) To continue to be prudent with welfare donations – we agreed many financial donations and our Welfare chair exercised great judgement through the year. This ensured we helped those most in need. We maintained funds in our charity account by targeted fundraising for immediate needs. We did this to ensure we could help when fundraising became less possible in the current financial climate.
-
6) To continue to support the Lions Clubs International Foundation – provided funding for Lions in disaster areas around the world. We supported Ukraine with finance and goods.
We were awarded the Peace Poster and International Twinning shields. Also awarded the Lions Club Excellence Award for 2021-2022. 1[st] Vice President and Membership Chair, Treasurer and Club Administrator, Secretary, Welfare and Activities Chairs all gave outstanding service for the good of the club. Board of Trustees opinions were greatly valued. Our activities once resumed went from strength to strength and our Afternoon Tea for older people to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was a great success.
We achieved our goals, had fun together and remain a strong local volunteer group moving forward as members of the world’s largest service organisation – Lions International.

Vice President’s Report
2021-2022
We started the year with meetings on zoom. Most members were able to contribute and it was so good to keep in contact with one another and ensure that we were all coping well.
As I was also Membership Chair I spent quite a bit of time trying to recruit new members in readiness for when life became more normal again.
I supported Lion President Alan in his second year in office, and by the early part of 2022 we were back to face to face meetings which had been missed by so many of our members, especially those living alone.
Very sadly we lost a well loved member who sadly died in late April, this year, Lion Charles Martin, he was only weeks short of being a Charter member and is missed by us all. Several of us have quite serious health issues and we are mindful that we are becoming an older club. With that thought we are hoping to encourage younger members to join us, to ensure that the good work done by dedicated Lions both in the past and the present will still continue, as we are aware of just how much our group means to our community.
