## **CHAIRMAN'S REPORT – AGM 5 JULY 2023**
Good evening everyone. Welcome and thank you for coming. Welcome to Cass, our County Chair. Thank you to Margaret and Ros for all the work Ros does looking after our ponies. All our ponies are to have their Annual Vet Check and Flu jabs next Monday. We have two new ponies on permanent loan to us, Arthur and Bobby. They belong to Elizabeth Beckerlegge. Elizabeth has now joined us, and is based here at Sandfield Farm. She does her hippotherapy classes here on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. On Monday 26 June, Julie Frost, our new Regional Co-ordinator, came to visit us and to introduce herself to us. She was very impressed with our new pony Bobby. She put his name forward to receive the Jubilee saddle. This is a made to measure saddle supplied and fitted by a local saddle fitter. What a lovely prize for us to receive. Only one saddle is gifted to a different RDA group each year, and this year it's our group to benefit.
## **Monday Rides**
There are three regular instructors for the Monday rides, Nicola Cook, Nikki Padgett and Helen Kitchen. All ponies are well turned out for the rides thanks to Bobbie, Louise and Pam. Since September two rides have had to be cancelled due to bad weather and others for the Queen's funeral and King's Coronation. There are four regular riders on the first ride. Elizabeth Beckerlegge has helped to assess new riders as well as regular riders to ensure safety and comfort of riders. A second ride was started at the beginning of November specifically for students from Applefields School, York. A few sessions were missed due to staff shortages/transport problems within the school. Due to the diverse nature of some of the riders' disabilities this has been challenging for all involved, particularly our instructors. Currently we have five riders from the school, all of whom have gained confidence and really enjoy their rides. The school has confirmed that they will have riders in the next academic year, starting on Monday, 2 October 2023. Our RDA Regional Coordinator is going to assist us to recruit more volunteers for the second ride. If successful, the aim is to offer more riding opportunities to the school. Feedback from the school has been very positive regarding instructors, volunteers and our wonderful ponies. We have an excellent team of dedicated volunteers, their help is very much appreciated.
## **Wednesday Rides**
After many years with the group, Tina Roberts decided to step down as head instructor at the beginning of April. Her support, encouragement and friendship has been greatly appreciated by us all. Jodie is now lead instructor supported by Angeline and Ellie. Thanks to Helen Worthington
and Paul Teale for grooming and tacking up the ponies each week. To date only one ride has been
cancelled due to bad weather. There are two rides on a Wednesday, there are currently 13 riders (three of whom have recently joined the ride off the waiting list). Work is in progress to get as many applicants off the waiting list as soon as possible. Elizabeth Beckerlegge has helped to assess new riders as well as regular riders to ensure safety and comfort of riders. All rides are going well, our instructors are delivering lessons that are both challenging and fun for the riders. In addition to our regular volunteers we also have some Duke of Edinburgh student volunteers. We have an excellent group of volunteers and their support is very much appreciated.
The Fun Day this year is to be held on Sunday, 10 September with Easingwold Lions providing and cooking our Barbecue for us.
