## **– LKYPCG December 2020 November 2021 Annual Report** 

## **Declaration** 

We at the Lower Kersal Young People & Community Group are pleased to present the report detailing the progress the group has made in last year with the continued financial backing of the Community Fund and Tudor Trust. 

For the first 6 months of the year the community was still recovering from lockdown due to COVID-19 however we continued to ensure we made provisions to support our community when we were able to meet again in June 2021 and as mentioned in our previous report, we have been prevented from raising funds due to restrictions however we were able to raise £206 through a sponsored Line Dance when it was safe to return. 

We have continued to work upon the longevity of the charity by ensuring we are able to continue covering our core costs and that the staff are fully trained, The Henry Smith Charity has provided a grant totalling £103,200 towards three years staff salaries and a new member of staff to continue working on our projects to provide support to disadvantaged people in Salford. The training will continue to be paid for through the Community Fund and we have been able to provide up to date safeguarding, first aid, food safety and allergy awareness as well as accountancy training. 

**Sewing, Knitting and Nattering Income £957.70 – Salix Homes** 

Our sewing group began to meet up again in June following the release of the lockdown, and we secured funding for materials so they could make articles for the charity to sell next year at events to raise funds for the charity’s longevity. 

The Sewing group continues to see regular members attending its sessions on a weekly basis. 

## **Allotments** 

**Income - £1320 (Not including last year’s remaining funds) – Vegware & GMYN Expenditure - £1800** 

Our allotment project has been a huge asset to the group through covid times as it has enabled us to ensure the members of the community have a safe space to help maintain their health and wellbeing, during this time we have also had numerus work done on our allotment plot, such as erecting a large gazebo for our members to sit under and remain out of the elements and a bench for people to sit on. We also had a large mural painted on our plot by one of our volunteers. This year we worked with Greater Manchester Youth Network on their project to support the health and wellbeing of young people in care facilities, this was delivered as a summertime programme which saw the young people attending our hub on a weekly basis for organised activities such as horticultural work and seeing relative films that LKYPCG have made over the years.

## **Radio Drama** 

**Income - £900 – Salix Homes** 

We have performed a stage play for almost 10 years and have never been able to secure a high-quality capture of it, so we decided to produce a radio drama, we have had our script rewritten to fit the radio presence, and we started to get members of the cast in one by one, this project is estimated to continue for the next few months. We have been in contact with Salford City Radio, who will be broadcasting it on their station, and we are hoping to have it all completed and broadcast by Christmas 2022. 

## **Local Cinema** 

**Income - £2255 – Salford City Council (Funding received during previous year) Expenditure - £1296** 

We received funding from Salford City Council to provide a COVID based relief, by getting members of the community together safely while following government guidelines. Though this project we secured a new 4k projector as well as paying for our film licences, we have shown multiple films so far for the community, which was highly received and we were approached by a local youth club to show a Christmas film for their group nearer the time, the project will continue into next year and the remainder of the money will cover staff time as well as additional film licences. 

## **Henry Smith** 

We have applied to The Henry Smith Charity, and were successful in securing this grant, this will cover additional staff salaries as we have increased our working hours to meet the rise in demand within our community, we have also taken this opportunity to hire an Allotment Manager as this is an asset to have within our community. We are receiving £103,200 over the next three years to cover these costs. 

## **Celebration Event – Salix Homes** 

**Income - £500 (Funding received during previous year) Expenditure - £500** 

LKYPCG originally wanted to celebrate receiving funding from the Community Fund, however due to COVID this was cancelled, so we took the opportunity revisit this and made a celebration about all the hard work of everyone who has been involved with the group over the 18 years it has been working within the community. This was a fantastic night, and the money was used to provide a buffet as well as for technical support on the night.

The national lockdown caused by COVID saw a lot of members of our community becoming and remaining isolated, so to combat this we secured funding from Awards for All to get the necessary basic equipment to get this project started, this included a portable laptop that was able to handle our editing software, as well as the mixing desk, 2 Microphones, pop filters and the pneumatic microphone holders. The intention of this project was to capture stories from local people and make them easily accessible to members of the community so they could feel connected. Following the success of our pilot of this project and the release of the national lockdown, we received funding from Salford CVS for the purchase additional recording equipment, which enabled us to do joint interviews with multiple interviewees to help create community cohesion and strengthen the idea of ‘Community Resilience’. 

**– LKYPCG Documentary Darker Days to a Brighter Future Salford Council £1450 (received 2019) + Manchester Guardian £700 (received 2019)  + Lancaster Duchy £250 (received 2019) Income - £2400 Expenditure - £2400** 

LKYPCG has been working in the community for 18 years and we thought this would be a good opportunity to capture the journey we have been on, as we have faced many ups and downs, we interviewed the staff who have worked with or continue to work with the charity as well as members of the community and the impact it has had on them. The funding secured was used to pay for the filming and editing of this documentary. 

## **Summary** 

This year has been a hard one for the community as a lot of people had to really adapt their way of life to the global changes, however thanks to the provision we have provided to the community we hope that we have been able to relieve the strain on the community, and going forward we would like to expand upon our current scope of activities, and as previously mentioned are trying to secure a more permanent premises for us to operate from and provide additional activities such as flower arranging which has had a rich history in our community but has been disbanded due to lack of funding. 

Due to COVID, we have been unable to provide group trips such as visiting the local pantomime and going to Blackpool, so this year we are hoping to put on more of these trips to provide additional community resilience. The sewing and line dancing groups have taken on new members and continues to thrive. 

As our funding will be coming to an end this year, we are looking to apply to additional funders to ensure the charities continuity.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the CIO for the year ended 30 November 2021.

As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the CIO’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
