## **Walsall Symphony Orchestra (Charitable Incorporated Organisation Reg. No. 1173311)** ## **- AGM 4[th] December 2023 - Trustee’s report** ## **Trustees** Current trustees are: Ian Sumner, Caroline Moore, and Rosemary Cripps. The trustees can be re-elected this year in accordance with the rules specified in the CIO governing document. Trustees are also committee members so that committee meetings automatically are trustee meetings. Ian Sumner is leaving the committee and so a new trustee may be appointed. ## **Dates** This report spans concerts in March, June and November 2023 (whereas the financial report is September 2022 to August 2023) ## **People** Thanks are due to all the committee for their hard work in concert organisation and the overall running of the orchestra. Ros Jacom has left the committee this year. We thank her for her contribution to the committee. Thanks are due to Naomi Shaw, Angela Cooper and Dawn Watson (our leader) for joining the committee at the start of the year. Clive Allsopp continues to support us as conductor (for more than 20 years) Dawn Watson continues as the orchestra’s leader. We thank Andrew Birkbeck for continuing to provide an annual review of the accounts. ## **Committee meetings** Committee meetings in 2023 were held on 7[th] January, 27[th] March , 7[th] July and 16[th] October. ## **Rehearsal venue** The trustees report in November 2022 documented the change of rehearsal venue to the Bluecoat Academy in September 2022. This venue has been very successful. We have a good rehearsal room with storage for timpani and music. ## **Membership** Membership numbers are as follows: For the past 2202 – 2023 year we will have 26 paid up members. ## Previous years’ membership number were: 2019 - 2020 35 paid up members 2020 - 2021 No paid up members (Because of covid) 2021 - 2022 29 paid up members. ## **Concert advertising** We have advertised all three of this year’s concerts in the local Pioneer magazine which has a distribution of 51000 copies. ## **Concerts** ## **Saturday 11[th] March 2023 at Pelsall Methodist Church, 1 Chapel Street, Walsall, WS3 4LN** We have performed at this excellent venue on many past occasions. Audience 80 people. The repertoire was: Delibes: Ballet music from Coppelia Mozart Horn Concerto no 3 Rimsky Korsakov: Dance of the Tumblers Elgar: Salut d’amour Dvorak: New World Symphony 1[st] movement Schubert: Unfinished Symphony 2[nd] movement J Strauss: Tritsch Tratsch Polka We were delighted to host Stephen Mayes as the horn soloist. (Stephen has supported our concerts on many occasions as a deputy horn player) ## **Saturday 17[th] June 2023 at St James’s Church, Church Road, Brownhills, WS8 6AB** Audience 75 people The repertoire was: Rimsky Korsakov: The Old Castle from Pictures at an Exhibition Gershwin by George (Gershwin selection) Grieg: Peer Gynt suite: Morning, Hall of the Mountain King Vaughan Williams: English Folk Song Suite Sullivan: Gilbert and Sullivan Gems Lloyd Weber: Selections from Cats Rimsky Korsakov: Dance of the Tumblers ## **Saturday 25[th] November 2023 at St Martin’s Church, 1 Daffodil Road, Walsall, WS5 3DQ** Audience 65 people The repertoire was: Offenbach : Overture to Orpheus in the underworld Judith Bailey: Noel Gustav Holst: Somerset Rhapsody Georges Bizet: L’Arlesienne Suite 2: Minuet & Farandole Karl Jenkins: Palladio Judith Bailey: Wassail Edvard Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite Paul Simon: A medley of songs Mozart: Overture Marriage of Figaro ## **Future concerts** 16[th] March 2024 at All Saints Streetly.
