## - Charities Commissioners Return 2020

As to be expected, due to Covid-19, Trustees were unable to meet formally during the course of the year; a meeting having been scheduled for March. Their previous meeting had been in September 2019 so planning and matters for discussion were up to date for intended action in 2020. Nevertheless, communication continued to take place between members which provided for a measure of developmental continuity plus useful meetings with the occasional visitor.

Inevitably visitor numbers were down due to Government directives. As the year progressed material for _Project 21_ was brought out of the church and installed in the porch. The Project enabled a wide range of information on Charitable Trusts to be displayed together with information regarding the role of St Nicholas, displayed on the notice board; various pamphlets and prayer guides could also be taken away.

_The Relatives Gathering_ , for those who normally tended family graves in the grounds and being traditionally held on the second Sunday of December, would have been the ninth to be held since the restoration of St Nicholas. Although cancelled a morning service of Remembrance was held with attendance being restricted due to Government directives. Visitors and their families were however, invited to come along during the afternoon to place flowers on their respective graves and enjoy some refreshment. Two visitors from abroad arrive unexpectedly whilst the church was open (and supervised). They made a very generous donation!

The traditional Christmas display was prepared in the chancel, based on the theme of Universal Christianity, together with a display of dolls in varying national dress. Left in place in anticipation of permission for Churches to be re-opened during early 2021 it had remained so, and hence, for the forth-coming Christmas season.

At the earliest opportunity of 2021 planned services held on the second Sunday of each month were re-established. It has already been planned to give wider notice of these services. The names and number of Trustees (10) remain the same.

Fortunately it proved possible for the upkeep of both church and grounds to be kept in good order throughout the year. This was appreciated by visitors familiar with the opportunity to utilise the seating made available for rest and reflection in the grounds. The _original weather vane_ , now restored and erected near the porch, also provided a fine display of flowers in hanging baskets.

The booklet entitled _'A Meditation'_ , which focuses on the five panels of the Reredos was available free of charge, hence the Reredos, plus other internal features, became linked to objectives for the restoration of St Nicholas and to the reasoning for _Project 21_ ; it also served to overcome restrictions during the greater part of 2020.
