Publlc benefit
The Trustees conflrm that they have complled wlth the requirements of section 17 of the

Achlevements and performanc•
Worklng In conjunctlon with local churches, Hope Into Artlon,. Mld Sussex provldes
supported houslng In the Mld Sussex region to those who are homeless or insecurely
housed. It enables churches to use thelr resources In partnership wlth the charlty to
provSde shared houslng of a hlgh standard, and frlendshlpi SUPPOrt, advocacy and advlce
to vulnerable adults in the communlty.
The charlty's model Is to use Investment resources to buy a property, typlcally sultable
for three tenants. Each tenant has thelr own room and use of a communal lounge,
kltchen and bathroom. The house Is Ilnked to a local church that provldes a posltlve
communlty, friendshlp, mentorlng and sUPPOrt. A professlonal Empowerment Worker
provldes expertlse to the tenants In applylng for benefits and for Jobs, Ilaislng wlth other
support agencies and agreelng a 'personal development plan, to help them prog￿$5 and
move on successfully Into Independent accommodatlon.
Thls Is a holistlc approach. We flrst rneet the Immedlate practlcal needs of the tenant,
then help them address the underlylng causes whlch led to them belng In poverty. The
posltive framework of relatlonshlp through the Empowerrnent Worker and the church's
frlendshlp and support team play a slgnlflcant role In helplng tenants to move out of
poverty.
Thls Is our eighth full year of operatlon, and we contlnue to run five houses, During thls
year, we worked wlth the owner of one of our properties to release £355,000 of equlty.
We secured Investment from 5 Indlvlduals and ownership was transferred In July. We
have pledged investment of cÉ240,000 toward5 house #6. Our occupancy for the year
wa5 85Vo, somewhat lower than previous years due to a lack of sultable referrals, and
several tenants movlng on posltlvely Into thelr own Independent accommodation.
Our part tlme Empowerment Worker In Crawley left in December 2024, and we
successfully recruited a replacement. He started employment In Apr51 2025 and Is
provldlng professlonal support to the 8 tenants (4 adults & 4 chlldren) In two houses In
the town. Thls was a successful appointment, with tenants developing a strong working
relationship with hlm, and he is beginnlng to strengthen partnerships with other agencies
In Crawley.

TRUSTEES. REPORT (CONTXNUED)
At 30 September 2025, we were housing and supportlng slxteen tenants across flve
houses. In addition, four tenants moved out of our supported houslng during this
flnanclal year, three movlng Into Independent accommodatlon and one moving to an
alternatlve supported hoLJsing provider. The majority of our tenants made progres5 In
the areas In which support was needed, Including improved mental health and findlng
employment. All of our tenants that had a prevSously problematic relationship with
alcohol or substances were making great progre55 In their recovery. We are keeplng In
contact wlth the majority of tenants that have moved out of our supported
accommodation. Thls provldes frlendship & support for the longer term, but also glves us
good data to prove that our model Is worklngi breaklng cycles of homelessness.
We have contlnued to develop and strengthen our partnershlps wlth the three churches
provSding frlendshlp & support to our tenants
Chrlst Church Haywards Heath, St
John's, Crawley and The Klng's Church Mld Sussex. The Klng5 Church have Identlfled a
new co-ordlnator to oversee thelr group, whlch wlll result In a hlgher level of
engagement, and an Increase In the number of befrienders meeting wlth tenants. Most
tenants have a befrbender in place and meet wlth them regularly, provldlng a Ilstening
ear, wlse advlce and tlme to explore Issues both present and past, We have provlded
tralnlng for the volunteer5 locally, and they have also been able to access natlonal
tralnlng with other groups.
Hope Into Artlon.. Mld Sussex Is a franchlse of Hope Into Actlon UK, whlch provldes us
wlth tralnlng, support, advlce and expertise. We have adopted thelr policles, wlth mlnor
adaptatlons as needed. Representatlves of Hope Into Actlon UK carry out regular audlts
of our houses and meet wlth our tenants, to ensure that standards are malntalned and
rlsks are managed approprlately, wlth the wellbeSng of our tenants belng paramount.
Plans for the charlty going forward
Over the next year, we wlll continue to search for addltlonal Investment towards a slxth
house In East Grln5tead. We wlll malntaln a hlgh level of occupancy and empower our
tenants to flnd employment, remaln 5ub5tance free and secure thelr Independent
accommodatlon. A partlcular focus Is to work wlth Crawley Borough Councll to create
move-on pathways for tenants In our Crawley propertles. We will also seek to Increase
the number of people within the Frlendship and Support groups, as this is a unlque
aspect of our supported houslng model, and one that helps our tenants to transform
thelr Ilves.
