KNOWLE WEST BAPTIST CHURCH (THE CAIRN) (THE CAIRN COMMUNITY) YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022
The Trustees are pleased to present their report together with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 December 2022.
Objecves and acvies
As required by our constuon, The Cairn Trustees pursued the church’s main purpose of advancing the Chrisan faith, with regard to the principles of the Bapst denominaon and the beliefs in the Bapst Union’s Declaraon of Principle. The Trustees gave due consideraon to the Commission’s guidance on public benefit under the Charies Act 2011 and, in parcular, the guidance for charies on the advancement of religion.
Our aim, sll, is to pursue God's vision for human flourishing in Inns Court and beyond, by living faithfully at The Cairn. We have been encouraged by many posive, incremental changes, as we look to see people and place transformed. Our commitment to our faith, as expressed in this way, is undiminished by the uncertain mes in which we live.
As 2022 began, and with due regard to health and safety guidance, we had re-established a paern of life around:
1st Sunday - Zoom at 11am, OR
Light Lunch at The Cairn from 12.30 -1.30pm;
2nd Sunday - small cairns (meet in small group, in person or zoom);
3rd Sunday - social walk; pray; or prayer walk (on your own, or safely with others);
4th Sunday - find a friend (meet one or two for tea, coffee, and to pray).
We had also re-started Guitar Club on a weekly basis, but by invitaon only, and with due regard to safety guidance.
This paern connued as Covid restricons were lied.
Our acvies were consistent with this context, and fully reflected those outlined in paragraph 5.2 of our Constuon (albeit, unl lied, with very clear regard to Government guidance on the pandemic, and as represented on the Bapsts Together website), namely:

Our missional creavity and commitment was again recognised in the awarding of a Home Mission Grant, by the West of England Bapst Associaon. We provided a full report to the West of England Bapst Associaon which further demonstrated the public benefit of our acvies.
Achievements and Performance
The meeng paern described above connued unl July.
From September, we met weekly at The Cairn, on Sunday mornings at 11am. These have been significant mes of praise, prayer, worship and encouragement for the Cairn Community.
We have a very faithful core community of around 20 local adults and two children. Up to 40 local people connect with us regularly through Sunday morning, Guitar Club or our third Friday Man Friday. We are roughly half commied Chrisans and half those exploring faith. Phil connues to send a weekly text message (or whatsapp) to that group and a few others.
As Guitar Club restarted, we were encouraged by the progress that many of our musicians had made.

KNOWLE WEST BAPTIST CHURCH (THE CAIRN) (THE CAIRN COMMUNITY) YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022
The men's work has been through a significant me of challenge and transion, but we have recently re-established Man Friday on 3rd Friday. Around 12 people (in total) have been involved in socialising, and watching an (oponal) Chrisan film.
We were encouraged, one hot summer's day, by the Fuelcast filming of The Cairn, and its subsequent use as a resource for others in the Bapst network. Another highlight was a garden event in July, which included a local Chrisan band.
The Cairn website was maintained to ensure people were aware of ongoing changes to our acvies.
Wider Partnerships
This was another significant year for developing partnerships, Chrisan and secular, across Bristol and further afield. These included:
Bapst Home Mission - from whom we again received grant support. West of England Bapst Network. Bapsts Together. Bristol Bapst College - we welcome students from me to me, most recently by Zoom. inHope - Trustee involvement. Hope into Acon - discussions connued successfully with this new partner organisaon, and a house was bought (as detailed below). Man Alive – close involvement of Cairn community in this health-funded men’s group. The Fishing Project (Hartcliffe and Withywood). Haven Day Centre - A Cairn Trustee is also a Trustee at The Haven, and there are many strong relaonships. Lee Abbey Small Missional Community, Knowle West – valuable, local, Chrisan partner. Chrisan Acon Bristol - Trustee involvement. Counterslip Cares Foodbank - Trustee involvement. Counes - Chair of Trustees sll chairs a local Counes Link Group.

Knowle West Alliance.
The Noise – Bristol social acon project; Trustee involvement. Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) - now supporng four children in a local primary school, through the coaching programme. Scripture Union - Go Wild! - Trustee involvement.
Financial Review
The charity's income for the year ended 31 December 2022 was £24,731. This compared with £20,617 in 2021. Total expenditure for the year was £18,748.
Reserves
The Trustees are fully aware of the need to consider an appropriate Reserves Policy as the finances and acvies of the church develop.
The total reserves held as at 31 December 2022 were £284,431, compared to £278,448 in 2021. It is intended to invest the majority of this in a MDM 3 bed house in the garden of the Cairn, with the remainder now invested in a part share of a Hope into Acon: Bristol property, here in Knowle West.
Plans for future periods
The church intends to connue its acvies within the community, and keep under review the viability of plans for building the manse. We connually adapted our acvies in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The church's primary source of income is, again, from the Home Mission Grant from the West of England Bapst Associaon , which allows for the provision of a minister, so the church is well-placed to connue sharing the gospel of hope at a me when it is most needed.
With the help of significant external investment, we have been able to partner with Hope into Acon, and inHope, in providing a house for three adult males who would otherwise be vulnerably housed.
