## **TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT**
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025.
## **Objectives:**
The objectives of the charity as per the constitution are:
- The advancement of education by:
- The provision of items, services and facilities for Long Preston Primary School; and
- the provision of bursaries to assist beneficiaries to attend schools, universities or other institutions or classes for the purpose of education other than elementary.
- The charity has continued to pursue these aims by ensuring the assets of the charity are managed efficiently.
## **Public benefit**
In accordance with their objectives for this year and with due regard to the published Charity Commission guidance on the operation of the public benefit requirement of the Charities Act 2011, the trustees have undertaken appropriate activities in furtherance of those aims for public benefit.
## **ACTIVITIES**
The charity has continued to pursue its objects as follows:
## **Bursaries**
We made 14 awards of £250 in 2025 totalling £3,500 to former pupils of Long Preston and Hellifield schools.
We have had help to increase uptake by former pupils spreading the word on Facebook, rather than relying on the posters and Craven Herald ads of the past. We are now currently working on a Facebook page for HEF to widen public knowledge of our existence and remit.
## **Community:**
We continue to be made aware of the activities of the Ribblesdale Federation of Schools, of which Long Preston Endowed VA Primary School is a part. Two of our trustees have close links to the school, and with the newly formed playgroup Wrens.
In recent years, we have been investigating the possibilities of setting up an affordable housing scheme – using our land and specifically aimed at families with young children aiming to support school numbers and working alongside CDC and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. However, currently this is on hold. We have a new Headteacher who we are creating a close working relationship with, and we are currently in talks with her as to how we can increase our involvement and support the school further.

## **School Support:**
As the school is Voluntary Aided, we are required to contribute our 10% towards school property repairs. These have included a new window, and painting works which was £7,000. We also pay for after school sports clubs throughout the year totalling over £4,218. We have also paid for iPads for use in school £2,161 and paid for transport for a school trip £280.
## **Financial stability and management of assets:**
The Charity is entirely reliant on the rental incomes from its land and properties. These include four cottages and approximately eighty acres of farm land, let on an agricultural tenancy to a local farmer.
Management of these assets occupies a significant proportion of the trustees' time and also include:
- Rent negotiation for small garden and parking area, adjacent to one of our properties.
- Rent for small grazing field
We are also mindful of continuing with a programme of refurbishment as properties become vacant. During the financial year £29,261 was incurred on re-roofing one property. We do not anticipate further significant repairs in the near future.
## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**
The financial statements show a healthy credit balance of £22,641, which is reasonably constant given the large amount of money that we plough back into our objectives this year.
We consider an amount of £15,000 to £20,000 to be our base reserve so as to have sufficient for ongoing work of the charity and to cover unforeseen property expenses. The remainder is used for cyclical property improvements and our contribution to significant school building improvements and further ways in which we can enhance the experiences for the children at school.
The trustees are pleased with the financial performance and confirm that, having considered all relevant factors that it will continue to be a going concern for the coming years.
In May 2026 the properties were valued by a professional valuer at £1,105,000.
## **STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE**
The Charity is governed by its constitution dated 19th May 2017 and is a Foundation CIO where the trustees are also the members of the charity.
On appointment, the objects of the charity and management procedures are explained to new trustees. They are provided with copies of the constitution and relevant publications from The Charity Commission. New trustees are asked to sign a Declaration of Eligibility for newly appointed trustees (using the model provided by The Charity Commission) and declare any conflicts of interest. The charity is run by the trustees as a body. We have face to face meetings several times a year, and we keep in regular communication, which is maintained via the Clerk.

The charity retains professional advisors who include an accountant, land agent, insurance broker, solicitor and property letting agent. Management decisions are taken at trustee meetings, as and when appropriate, on the advice and involvement of their professional advisors and as such enables the trustees to minimise risks facing the charity.
Day-to day management is carried out by the clerk/treasurer.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES**
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2025.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
- (1) accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
- (2) the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
- 1 Basis of preparation
These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis in accordance with the Charities Act 2011.
- 2 Fund Accounting
- (a) Unrestricted funds are those that can be expended at the discretion of the trustees in the furtherance of the objects of the charity
- (b) Restricted funds are those that may only be used for specific purposes. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor.
- 3 Taxation
The charity is not liable to tax on its charitable activities.
- The charity is not registered for VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the expense to which it relates.
- 4 Transactions with trustees
No remuneration nor expenses were paid to trustees, or any persons connected with them during the year or previous year.
## **Land and buildings**
The land and buildings owned for rent were valued in May 2026 at £1,105k. The trustees consider this valuation indicative of values at 31[st] December 2025.
