TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2020.
This is the third report of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation, since it was formed on 19th May 2017, which superseded the charity of the same name, number 529474, which is no longer in existence.
OBJECTS
The objects of the charity as per the constitution are:
The advancement of education by:
The provision of items, services and facilities for Long Preston Primary School; and
the provision of bursaries to assist beneficiaries to attend schools, universities or other institutions or classes for the purpose of education other than elementary.
The charity has continued to pursue these aims by ensuring the assets of the charity are managed efficiently.
Public benefit
In accordance with their objectives for this year and with due regard to the published Charity Commission guidance on the operation of the public benefit requirement of the Charities Act 2011, the trustees have undertaken appropriate activities in furtherance of those aims for public benefit.
ACTIVITIES
Notwithstanding COVID-19 and the restrictions brought in during the year, the charity has continued to pursue its objects as follows:
Bursaries
42 awards of £190 were made in 2020 (last year 25) made to former pupils of Long Preston / Hellifield Schools. The total amount incurred was £7,980.
Community
We continue to be made aware of the activities of the Ribblesdale Federation of Schools, of which Long Preston Endowed VA Primary School is a part. One of our trustees is our link to the school.
We have recruited further trustees from the community to widen our expertise and links to the villages. We were saddened to hear of the death of Mr John Sturgess, trustee, in December.
During 2019 we were investigating the possibilities of setting up an affordable housing scheme – using our land and specifically aimed at families with young children aiming to support school numbers and working alongside CDC and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With the pandemic work on this has not continued.
School Support:
As the school is Voluntary Aided, we are required to contribute our 10% towards school property repairs. Nothing was incurred in 2020.

Financial stability and management of assets:
The Charity is entirely reliant on the rental incomes from its land and properties. These include four cottages and seventy acres of farmland, let on an agricultural tenancy to a local farmer.
Management of these assets occupies a significant proportion of the trustees' time and also include:
Rent negotiation for small garden and parking area adjacent to one of our properties. Rent for a small grazing field.
Our programme of refurbishment to our properties continues – this is to keep them in such a manner that they can be suitably let.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The financial statements show a healthy credit balance of £49,248. We aim to hold £25,000 in bank funds for ongoing work of the charity and to cover unforeseen property expenses. The remainder is used for cyclical property improvements and our contribution to significant school building improvements.
The charity owns various plots of land and properties in Long Preston, including the school and the four cottages in Long Preston as mentioned above.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The Charity is governed by its constitution dated 19th May 2017 and is a Foundation CIO where the trustees are also the members of the charity.
On appointment, the objects of the charity and management procedures are explained to new trustees. They are provided with copies of the constitution and relevant publications from The Charity Commission. New trustees are asked to sign a Declaration of Eligibility for newly appointed trustees (using the model provided by The Charity Commission) and declare any conflicts of interest.
The charity is run by the trustees as a body, which elects a chairperson annually. Although face to face meetings in most of the year have not been possible, regular communication with the trustees is maintained.
The charity retains professional advisors who include our accountant, land agent, insurance broker and solicitor. Management decisions are taken at trustee meetings, as and when appropriate, on the advice and involvement of their professional advisors. The day-to day management is carried out by the clerk/treasurer.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2020.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

(1) accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
-
(2) the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

1 Basis of preparation

These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis in accordance with the Charities Act 2011.

2 Fund Accounting

(a) Unrestricted funds are those that can be expended at the discretion of the trustees in the furtherance of the objects of the charity

(b) Restricted funds are those that may only be used for specific purposes. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor.

3 Taxation
The charity is not liable to tax on its charitable activities.
The charity is not registered for VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the expense to which it relates.
- 4 Transactions with trustees
No remuneration nor expenses were paid to trustees or any persons connected with them during the year or previous year.
