Watchfield Village Hall C.I.O AGM November 27[th] 2023
Chairman’s Report
Another busy year for the hall. Our established users continue to hire the hall weekly.
In addition, we have welcomed several new hirers including an activity class for under five year olds and Little Kickers, football for under five year olds. We were please to host the Local Scout/Cub group for an over night stay following their Night vision walk. Following the success of this visit they have now booked another event. Private parties are very popular and are a regular source of income.
The village hall is also hired by the District Council as a polling Station . The mobile Post Office continues each Wednesday, which provides a vital service to the village, especially to older residents and parishioners without transport.
Rates of hire have been reviewed are will rise in the New Year.
. Maintenance
. The grass cutting contract was awarded for a further year to A& L Garden Maintenance .
General maintenance continues on the, electrical appliances and other areas of the hall on a regular basis as required.
Fundraising
Christmas Fayre was very successful, as was Christmas Bingo.
A Car Boot sale was held on the recreation field in April and we were lucky to have good weather.
A further Bingo evening held in September raised much needed funds and was very well attended.
No fete was held again this year as the committee decided there was insufficient help.
Projects
A police approved key safe was installed and will be used by regular hirers. An electronic front door is now in place which allows independent wheel chair access to the hall.
Wi Fi was installed at the hall and a member of the committee is building a new website for the hall.
It was agreed that an online booking system would be purchased from Hall Master. This s still being trialed but will hopefully go live in the New Year.
A new kitchen was installed recently which gives more storage and is more hygienic . .New bank accounts were opened which gave better rates of interest. The treasurer will give more information in his report.
Conclusion.
This year the Parish Council took the decision to relocate their meetings to the pavilion. This ends a very long connection with the council, as the Village hall has hosted all council meetings free of charge since it’s inception.
My thanks to Naomi Watts, an Australian who lived in Watchfield for a year and helped us with the technical side of advertising on line.
.
At last year’s AGM several members stood down for personal reasons which left a small committee of four.
Obviously the work load with all the projects undertaken this year has stretched the committee and cannot be sustained indefinitely.
I am confident that new members will come forward this year to continue providing the community with a place to meet.
My thanks to Mike Ablitt, Julie Gillhespey and Kyri Jackson for their dedication to the hall, without whom the hall was in danger of closing I am optimistic that next year the hall will flourish, with an influx of new blood and ideas.
