Three members’ Business Meetings were held during the year, including the Annual General Meeting. ## _**Section CObjectives and activities**_ ## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** The purposes of the Church are: 1. the advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith primarily but not exclusively within Wrexham and the surrounding neighbourhood. 2. such other charitable purposes as shall, in the opinion of the members of the Church in general meeting, put into practice the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith, including but not limited to: the prevention and relief of need, hardship and sickness; the advancement of education; and the provision of community facilities. ## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects** All the Elders & Deacons (Trustees) have confirmed that they have read and understood the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit, and have given due regard to this guidance when exercising any relevant powers or duties. Page 3 of 8 **Bradley Road Evangelical Baptist Church** **Annual Report 2020** ## _Regular main meetings of the church_ - Worship services on Sunday mornings & evenings. - Mid-week Bible study & prayer meetings ## _Various weekly youth activities_ - _Sunday School_ caters for ages 3 to 11 years. - _Fab Club_ is a meeting for Primary School age children on Friday evenings. - _Focus_ is a meeting for teenagers & is held on a Friday evening. All youth meetings are aimed at promoting and applying the principles of the Christian Gospel in an attractive & enjoyable way. All of the above were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many were accommodated with online alternatives using video (YouTube) and conferencing platforms (Zoom and Skype). ## _Other regular meetings_ At the start of the year, the church also ran regular all-age meetings, open to all members of the public. Alternative arrangements due to COVID-19 are indicated. These included - Weekly _Monday Matters_ , offering support to the church and the community, including Easy English lessons for asylum seekers and others. (* suspended) - Weekly Foodbank distribution, run by _Wrexham Foodbank_ (* continued under Wrexham Foodbank / Trussell Trust Covidsecure procedures), together with a drop-in 'Tea & Coffee' chat and support session. (* suspended) - Monthly mid-week Fellowship meetings held in members’ homes. (* replaced by online conference) - Monthly Coffee Morning open to all from the local community. (* suspended) - Monthly Ladies’ fellowship meetings with tea & cake and a Christian talk. (* continued online, or socially distanced) - Instructional classes for those seeking baptism, as required. (* continued online, or socially distanced) ## _Further Seasonal/Occasional activities_ Local/Community - The church supported local primary schools in their religious education with a video series _Ten Things Everyone Should Know About The Bible_ and videos for Easter and Christmas. - One of the pastors does chaplaincy work at _Berwyn_ prison, volunteering with Christian Prison Resourcing to lead Bible studies for the men in prison. (* initially suspended, but continued online or in-person within HMP Berwyn guidelines) - We provided a stand of information and literature at the student _Freshers’ Fair_ at Glyndwr University. - The church hall served as Polling station for Welsh Assembly elections. ## Global - The church supported a local charity _Teams4U_ to send Christmas gift shoeboxes to support church outreach work in Romania. ## _Additional steps during COVID-19 lockdown_ - Online services and programmes as above. - WhatsApp group was set up to promote ‘community’ during the initial lockdown. - Weekly information email. - Online events: Quizzes, VE day celebrations and a Fun Day ‘alternative’. - Christmas card distribution in the locality, also announcing … - Christmas Carol Service on YouTube. - Occasional outreach video series such as _Big Questions, Important Answers_ . It was also available via a telephone ‘recorded announcement’ service. - Support for errands and shopping for those shielding at home. ## _Grants to other organisations_ The church aims to give 10% of its unrestricted giving to mission work. Regular giving is as follows. - London City Mission (Charity Number 247186) - Albanian Evangelical Mission (Charity Number 1036807) - Testimony Faith Homes (Kenya) via Aenon Trust, Charity Number 1046859) - Open Doors (Charity Number 1125684) - Release International (Charity Number 280577) - The Christian Institute (Charity Number 1004774) The church occasionally supports particular global appeals, through restricted giving, where they are in accord with the ‘objects of the charity’ set out in its governing document. ## _**Section D Achievements and erformance p**_ ## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** As a consequence of the activities listed above, it has been encouraging to note excellent attendance at the church services on Sundays. Members and regulars continued to progress through life in community and with mutual support. Five new members joined the church during 2020, and one passed away. During the year the number of adults on our ‘Regular Attenders’ address list dropped by 7 (8 removed, 1 added). A number of people were introduced to the church through the online meetings. Page 6 of 8 **Bradley Road Evangelical Baptist Church** **Annual Report 2020** ## _**Section EFinancial review**_ ## **Reserves and Deficit** The church is committed to a reserve of at least 3 months of unrestricted payments in the savings account. There are no funds in deficit. ## **Further financial review details** The church received most of its funds from members and regular attenders. Gift Aid was recovered where appropriate, either directly or through Stewardship Services. Several regulars have switched to bank transfer giving due to the suspension of in-person services. The church makes GASDS (Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme) claims on qualifying cash donations. ## _**Section FOther o tional information p**_ The church engages with several organisations for help in achieving its aims. 1. The _Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches_ (FIEC) for dialogue and shared experience with other likeminded churches across the UK. 2. _Stewardship Services_ for advice and assistance on finance matters such as Gift Aid. 3. _ThirtyOne:Eight_ (formerly _Churches’ Child Protection Advisory Service_ ) for advice on safeguarding vulnerable persons and administration of the Disclosure and Barring Service. ## _**Section G Declaration**_ The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act; - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act; and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect: - the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or - the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or - the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
