It is based in Sedlescombe Village Hall, Sedlescombe Near Battle, East Sussex TN33 0QP and it meets on Sunday mornings during school term times providing rehabilitation and training for the Kennel Club, Good Citizens Award Scheme at Bronze, Silver & Gold levels. Four classes are held each Sunday morning with up to 8 dogs in each class. We provide support for the dog owners to help them manage their dog’s behaviour. Some of the owners have mental health conditions, are elderly, live alone or have learning difficulties and their dogs provide very important emotional support for them. In addition to the training side of K-9RR, there is also a small foster-based general dog rescue. Principally we are a rescue for UK dogs, however we also find that we are being asked to take in European dogs which we have not imported. K-9RR works with other small animal charities such as The Ann Craske Welfare Fund, Barby Keel and Cat Call. Ann Craske stores any surplus food that we don’t need and supplies Hastings Food Bank and the local homeless with food for their pets. ## **Objectives:** K-9RR’s main objective for 2021 to 2022 was to survive the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic both as a rescue and training organisation whilst continuing to strive and achieve our charitable aims & objectives. ## **Achievements and performance** During significant stages of the year, we were forced to close down as a training school although we maintained contact with our members and we continued supporting them with managing their dog’s behaviour through social media, email, phone calls and Whatsapp. The sporadic training meant that normal testing for the Good Citizens Award qualifications which normally occurred twice a year, was impossible. In spite of the fact that we were not able to meet consistently during the year, we were consistently in contact with the members by phone, email and social media. As fellow dog lovers we fully understood the companionship and love that dogs provide for their owners and the important role that dogs play in their families lives. We hope that we have retained our public value and benefit. The Rescue side of K-9RR was comparatively quiet during 2021 to 2022 too as people held on to their dogs for company during lock-down because working at home was still going on. We managed to continue to support our elderly long-term rescues, as well as the new rescues that we took in. It was fortunate that we did not have many rescues in between April 2021 and Christmas 2021 because Covid-19 made the recruitment of fosterers hazardous and difficult. A total of fifteen dogs were rehomed during the financial year. Many of these dogs were young ‘lock-down puppies,’ with serious reactivity problems due to lack of socialisation during the early months of their lives. Of those fifteen dogs, eight went directly into new homes or into foster. In January 2022 we took in three dogs Simba, Nova and Max, all large dogs with behaviour issues; Simba and Max were ‘lock-down’ puppies. Because we did not have foster carers to take care of the three, we had to place them all in the care of a boarding kennel, which had a significant impact upon our finances. We were not able to able fundraise in public, or run physical dog shows, therefore we had to look for other means of raising money to keep K-9RR going. We ran several online dog shows, advertised for more people to nominate us for _easyfundraising_ and we also introduced One Lottery to our supporters through social media. These means of fundraising kept us afloat and at the end of the year we seemed to be much better off financially than we had anticipated (thanks to the volunteers who helped with the online dog shows). In spite of the difficult circumstances during this year we did continue to hold to our charity aims and objectives, albeit in ‘different’ ways. ## **Financial Review** In spite of the difficult circumstances of the year, we were able to pay off the purchase of our hydro pool which was our largest outstanding debt. Boarding fees for the three dogs in kennels were paid for monthly and continued into the financial year for 1[st] April 2021. Funds at 31[st] March 2022 stood at £9,944 for the rescue (in the CAF & Paypal Accounts) and £5,172 in the Nat West Training Account (less £100 cash in hand). This cash in hand was held by the charity’s treasurer as a float for the training club. K-9RR owns no property or financial reserves (other than those stated above).
