This was one of the first opportunities for us to get together face to face since the start of the pandemic, It was great to be able to catch up and have a lovely day in each others company. We also learnt a bit more about large scale pig farming which is something that was less familiar to those of us who farm sheep or cows.

I can not thank you enough, from the very prompt
reply to my 1st email to speedy action of
providing me with a counsellor and the amazing
support both yourselves and the counsellor gave
me. You saved my life and l am forever thankful of
this. You do a fantastic job, and don't get the
recognition you deserve.

This service helped me through a bad
time in my life, I felt supported and
that I did matter. At the end of my
counselling I was reassured that if I
needed to, I could return. It would be
huge loss if this service was not
available their response time is
wonderful!!
I have recommended DPJ to a friend
who recently suffers from depression
and anxiety in the hope that he will
get the help he needs. Thank you fo
your support

## **Occupations of those trained**

Of the 162 people giving their occupation, 34 said they were farmers, 59 were in direct farm facing roles, 10 were agriculture students. 71 were directly farming or living on a farm.

**"Kay was a great trainer, very informative and empathetic. This day really lifted my spirits and I hope to now move forward and not feel ashamed of my anxiety. I also feel I can now be more open about my mental health"**

**"It was unbelievable that the course was on Wednesday as this morning, completely left of field I had a call from a relative to say that her sibling had attempted the worst earlier in the week, it took my breath.I've since been passing on contacts to DPJ, RABI and financial and advisory contacts and going to visit tomorrow although it isn't public knowledge, but it has shaken us I have to say, so hoping that between the syche team and all of the above that we have it under some semblance of control. Many thanks for Wednesday, I never for one moment thought the training would come into play so soon"**

**"Really enjoyed the training - it was very informative and improved my understanding of mental health issues in agriculture, which are of relevance to my work as well as hobbies/activities in my free time. I feel very fortunate to have been able to complete the course free of charge. Two added bonuses was 1) being able to complete the course virtually and therefore scheduling the rest of the days tasks around the training, and 2) being able to share ideas/experiences and completing the course through the medium of Welsh.**

O&JECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

agriculture and to raise awareness of mental health issues with a view to rernoving the stlgrra of mental hèalth and
encouraging th058 suffering wlh poor mental health to seek help. 11 does this through spreading awareness of Mental
Health, educating people through Mental H8allh Awareness Training which provide8 a first aid for mental health and
providing pr8Gli¢al support to thDse in the sector through the 'Share the Load. counselling referral service. The Charity
has continued rt5 strategic planning process which remains ongoing. The Charity confirms rf£ has referred lo the

ACHIEVEMENT ANO PERFORMANCE
There are three main str8nds to the Charity's 8ervices'.
Share the Load
Mental Health Aw8ieness Trainlng
Awareness Raising 8nd Stigma Bustlng
Share the Load
Share the Load is a 2417 confidential call and text line that 15 8taffed by trained volunteers. We hav& a team of 35 Share
the Load volunteers in total. although not all are currently actively volunteering. 11 provides a listèning seNice as well as
operating as a counselling referral service. Over the course of the financial year. we recruited an additional 9 volunteers
to the Share the Load 5ewice, again focussing on increasing the number of Welsh spe8ker8.
For the pèriod of the financi81 year (April to March) supported 194 people wth access to fully funded counselling and
handled over 136 additional text contscls and calls. A further 140 people have been given ace8s$ lo counselling Since
April 2022. Addrf£ional counsellors were recruited from across Wales and counselling was provided in 8 range of form815
including face to fac&, by telephone, online 8nd by text. Face to face coun5elling included outreach whÈi8 the client is
mel al their home or place of work. Services were provided Éo people within 16 of the 22 W91sh local authority areas.
Duiing this year it became clear that there were gaps for support provI8ion following suicide Iposfvention) and also that
our Share the Load service was supporting many people who were dealing with grief. As such we applied for and were
warded funding from tha We15h Govemment tts deliver more services around bereavement and grief.
Mental Health Awareness TraSnlng
We deliver Mental Health Awarenèss Training that Is dè519ned to give the agrieLJllural communlty the ability to support
each other and bè Gonfident in spotting the signs of poor mental health and signposting onwards. The training also
encompasses suicide awareness las agriculture carries one of the highest rates of suicide). Our Mental Health
Awareness Training is our own bespoke training Package which we d6liver exclusively.
Training was adapted lo be delivered online and we have started lo adapt the core training to explore add-ons that can
add va5ue for organisations. Training has been delive￿￿ in English and Welsh.
Training was offered freè of charge to the general community to book thanks to grant funding from the Welsh
Govemmenl and trustees took the decision lo retain the free offering when funding came to an end. We also deliver
commlssioned Ir8ining for organisalions and this year have delivered training to organisations including Dyfed Powy8
Police. Menl&r 8 Bu8nes, veterinary groups, an Estate and agFicullural consultants.

THE DPJ FOUNDATION
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2022
We have also delivered the FCN and NFYFC collaboration Rura1+ and delivered training within schools and agricultural
colleg8 settings.
Through funding from Powys Tèaching Health Board, we were able to pilot a range of wellbeing sessions in the Powys
area which allowed delegates to leam lechnlques lo improve their own wellbeing.
Awargness Raistng and beating the stigma
Each of our activities feeds into this overarching theme of raising awareness of mèntal h8allh issues and tackling the
$tigma that rèmains surrounding poor mental health. We resumed face lo face shows and attendance at rnarkets and
events during this year. both through volunteers aftd staff.
Our Regional Champions play a vital role in being the representatives tsf the charity in their areas and wè would be
unable lo sustain the level of our awareness raising activities or fundraising without their extremely valuable
contributions. We have 42 Regional Champions across the whole of Wales
We have continued to c￿ate and shara daily mess8ges on $oci81 media and have increased our reach by starting a
new Linkedln account during this year. During the eour$e of the financial year we increased our followers across all
platforrns to 14,850 on Facebook, 2,880. on Twitter, 4.670 on Inslagram and 450 on Linkedln which sugge8ls that we
were reaching additional audiences. These have continued to grow.
We delivered talks to 8 variety of groups ranging frorn young farmers and agricultLJral college students to
agri-businesses, to other third sector groups and nelwotks who may be 8ble to refer to us or add valug lo the charitls
services. We h8ve also spoken al conferences and seminars for other organisations.
The Wearing is Caring" clothing proved popular once again as a rneans of raising awareness of the DPJ Foundation in
the community and reminding potential service users of our messaging. During the course of the year. Iruslees
considered the purp03e of the clothing range and decided that it was intended to raise awareness of men181 health and
thus challenging the stigrna rather than to generate income lalthough covering costs).
We again participated as 8 lead partner in Ag Mental Health Week in October which generated coverage in the media
and social media and included Emma our Chair of Trustees Speaking at an online session. We also benefited from the
fitness challenge #Run1000 which again provided a focus in January for wellbeing.
Building on this, we r8n our own challenge the Wales Coastal Path Challenge that Concluded in the Spring of 2021.
Thi5 generated funds of ￿,607.88.
Once again, we used bale stickers to allow farmers to show their support for the charity and to remind people of our
Share thè Load servicè. W8 received feedback that these were effective in leading those who were not previously
awaie of the charity to look us up.
