Unique in Europe, the NYHO has 40 of the most talented harpists from
across the UK. It was founded by their Director, Professional Ha￿lSt,
Luisa Cordell, to provide a training platform and a wealth of opportunities
for dedicated harpists. Thè orchestra now boasts a Training Orchestra for
young harpists, as well as the Senior Orchestra for more advantsd
players.
The NYHO regularly performs at prestigious events and concert venues
acros8 the UK including The Barbican. St John's Smith Square and
Cadogan Hall, and across Europe including Belgium, France, Portugal,
Gemiany, Netherlands, Hungary, Italy and Ireland, as well as further
afield to the USA. In Washington we were privileged to play for the

Embassy.

Section D
Achievements and performance
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
The NYHO had a busy a year of concerts and events. We had our usual
Christmas Concert followed by our main performance at Menuhin Hall in
Cobham, Surrey.
Over the Easter break 25 of our members travelled to Portugal to
establish continue our exchange link with students from the
ConseNatorio in Faro. While there they took part in workshops and
several joint concerts. They then travelled to Seville in Spain, to perform
an additional at the Conservatoire of music.
In the Spring the NYHO hosted a visit from world-renowned harpist
Alfredo Ortiz to work with our own harpists and the wider harp
community.
We continued with our outreach programme with our members
performing to patients in care homes and hOSpi￿S.
We continue to support members from less advantaged backgrounds
with our Bursary scheme and set up a new Graduate Bursary to support
members in their first year studying music at College or University.
During this period the NYHO also purchased a new pedal harp. This will
enable members that are unable to purchase an expensive instrument
the opportunity to borrow one.
Section E
Financial review
Brief ststement of the
charity's poll¢y on reserves
The NYHO Charitable Trust's policy on reserves is to maintain a
sufficient level of operational reserves. As a relatively new Charity, we
are looking to build our reserve position, to enable us to meet our
financial liabilities in terms of staff costs, contractual commitments such
as venue hire, and overheads for a period of 12 months in the unlikely
event of a temporary drop or cessation of income. In so doing, this will
enable us to continue our activities to bring harp music to the attention of
the wider public, in particular concerts and tours, and our outreach
programme, and to enable us to operate effectively in this aGtivity.
