All trustees served for the full year.

The charity was created under a trust deed dated 28 August 2012 and is an unincorporated association.

## **Objectives and activities**

The trust seeks to aid the inhabitants of India who by reason of their social and economic conditions are in need of assistance by the provision of food, health care, housing, education, counselling and training for work and principally by supporting the work of the Mahalir Aran Trust, a body formed in accordance with and governed by the laws of India, based at Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu.

The charity’s activities in this year as in earlier years are the remitting of funds raised in Europe and the USA to India to support the work of Mahalir Aran Trust in providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical support principally to women and children.

The charity does not solicit funds from the general public. We are grateful for the continued contributions received from our supporters.

The charity is registered with HMRC for the purposes of recovery of Gift Aid on individual donations

## **Public Benefit**

The trustees have kept in mind the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit in all their activities and are satisfied that all activities and expenditure fulfil the criteria.

## **Financial Review and Reserves**

In the year, the charity received less income (£44,853 down from £80,117 in 2020) as a result of the legacy received in 2020. £27,000 was paid in grants to Mahalir Aran to support the projects in India, (2020 £18,000 to Mahalir Aran and £6,000 to Flowering Desert). All income was unrestricted for use by the charity within its overall objectives.

At the end of the year the charity was holding funds of £118,598 (2020 £100,745).

In 2022 the charity has resolved to use part of its reserves for the construction of houses for widows in the area in which Mahalir Aran operates. Plans are also under consideration for the development of a community centre and to enhance the wellbeing projects.

The trustees declare that they have approved the report above
