Chair’s report
Forest RDA has had another busy year. We have gained a number of excellent new volunteers, but have also unfortunately lost some. Chrissie has retired from RDA after many years as a committee member and trustee, and her sterling job manning the RDA camera and sorting out uniform will be greatly missed. Chrissie’s husband Mike has run both the Forest RDA Facebook page and website for many years, and we will equally miss his hard work and dedication. We hope they enjoy their afternoon tea voucher at the Tudor Farmhouse that we gifted them. We have however gained a new trainee coach, with Kerry joining our coaching team – well done Kerry!
We have also had changes in our riders over the past year. Last summer we made the hard decision to stop lessons for the 2 schools that rode with us, due to ongoing issues with non-attendance and poor communication. Lynn and Adam also had to stop riding with us after many years of lessons, and we wish them well in the future. Although we were very sad to see them all go, it has opened up a number of spaces in our lessons for riders who have been on our waiting list for sone time, and it is lovely to see new faces. It has also enabled us to reorganise our rides, allowing groups of similar ability to ride together
Fundraising has continued, although not to the scale of previous years. We have invested in a number of new rider helmets to replace old hats, and Roy is currently making us some road signs so that we can incorporate road safety in our lessons. Dorothy and I have just completed a funding application to the Sedbury Trust to fund a new large mounting block, which allow 2 volunteers/coaches to stand on top with a rider. It will also be lighter than our present block and for more easily moved into the school on rainy days. We look forwards to our now traditional day at Ross bandstand, and will hopefully raise more funds there
Back in September we joined Maisemore groups pre-term volunteer training at Hartpury College. It was very valuable, and also really interesting to see how other groups run, and to meet their volunteers.
We have continued with our coffee and dog walking sessions for volunteers although not as many as the previous year - hopefully we will have more soon. This summer I will finally be in the country for the National RDA Championships at Hartpury, and would suggest a group picnic at this lovely day out (weather permitting!) We won’t have any riders taking part, but it’s a good opportunity for new riders to come and have a look
Thank you to everyone who has helped over the past year – from the volunteers, coaches, riders, parents and carers, but especially to Severnvale Equestrian and their fantastic ponies!
