Chair’s report
Forest RDA has had another busy year and we have finally emerged from the shadow of covid. We have said goodbye to some treasured volunteers: John has moved to Somerset, but left us with the donation of some video equipment from a cider makers charity, which sold for over £900! We have lost 3 committee members and trustees: Terry was one of our longest standing members, and continues to be incredibly busy looking after her own herd of equines. We will miss her greatly as she really has been the backbone of Forest RDA for many years, from coaching, to fundraising, to singlehandedly completing the paperwork that allowed us to open after lockdown. Dawn has also resigned as a committee member and trustee but is keeping up her horse wrangling skills by helping Terry with her herd. I think we can safely say that Dawn raised more money for Forest RDA than the rest of us put together and we will miss her fundraising expertise. Finally, Tricia’s knees and the arena surface finally got the better of her, and she also reluctantly left the group. However, we have had a number of new volunteers and we welcome them and look forwards to working wit them in the future
Instead of attending the National Championships at Hartpury, we made the decision to enter the Virtual Championships – with great success! Four riders - Freya, Alice, Imogen and Henry - entered a total of 10 classes – dressage, countryside challenge and show jumping – which Dorothy very capably videoed. All riders performed brilliantly and achieved far more than their scores reflected, with Imogen winning her show jumping class! Congratulations to all and thanks to the coaches for making this possible! I think that the virtual championships are far more inclusive than the nationals, and I hope that our success will continue in future years
Congratulations must also go to Janet for passing her assessment and qualifying as an RDA coach. Janet has worked so hard to become a coach and has put a lot of time into both her training and in to Forest RDA as a whole. We are lucky to have her joining our team of fantastic coaches!
Socially we have held some coffee and dog walking sessions for volunteers and these have been great, giving us time to chat and get to know each other a bit better. Last year’s summer party was also (apparently!) a great success, and hopefully we will repeat it this year!
Thank you to everyone who have helped over the past year – from the volunteers, coaches, riders, parents and carers, but especially to Severnvale Equestrian and their fantastic ponies!
