Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 F4Wt entered the final stages of the major
project Collecting Pl4ces. The project
created an audio-visual map of Rushmoor,
celebrating landmarks of cultural heritage,
by showcasing space-specific works
recorded from the acoustic mapping of
locations to build a catalogue of the socio-
cultural history of the borough.
The project was inspired by a 1960
Ordnance Survey. Vintage maps highlight
change over time. Rushmoor, like many
communities, has lost most of its once
thriving socio-cultural scene to
development. The project signposted
places of local significance by gathering
impulse responses using a short transient
sound at each location, capturing an audio
snapshot. This allowed participants to
incorporate the acoustic identity of a site
into their own musical creations.
5 professional, semi-professional and
aspiring sound artists were employed to
write and record for each site. Each artist
performed, demonstrating the artistic
profile of the science to other project
participants and to the public.
Musicians and sound artists were then
invited to create their own compositions
using the resonance of a space of their
choice, which culminated in a compilation
release show, digital download and stream
through Bandcamp and ultimately the
release of the documentary filmed across
the life of the project. The documentary,
made by Jack Taylor Productions, serves
as a record of project development and
artistic creativity, and measured impact
Academic interest in sonic preservation
offers an opportunity to develop research
in collaboration with UCA, Farnham, which
F4Wt plans to build on in the near future.
Collecting Pl4ces was supported by
National Lottery Project Grant funding from
Arts Council England, with in-kind support
from Hampshire Cultural Trust, Rushmoor
Borough Council, Grainger plc,
Farnborough Air Sciences Trust and Maida
Gym.
F4Wt also launched the PL4Y project,
which provided public pianos in high
footfall areas throughout Rushmoor.
F4Wt supported aspiring musicians with
industry mentorship and the rehoming of
musical instruments and related tech, and
funding new equipment for aspiring
musicians in care locally. These individuals
were identified in collaboration with social

services and need was met on a case-bycase assessment. F4Wt continued to develop the partnership with the online peer-to-peer platform Waveform, now hosting to ensure sustainability. We will continue to develop this collaboration to increase reach and delivery targets. F4Wt continues to work with stakeholder organisations and local government to develop the arts offer within Rushmoor. Several major developments within Farnborough and Aldershot now feature art-specific spaces for the community, whilst Rushmoor Borough Council has now included a ‘Cultural Hub’ within the civic quarter development due by 2027, this is a direct result to campaigning by F4Wt and local creatives.
