## KINGFISHER CAFE

## **Trustees Report 2022- 2023**

We have had a busy year supporting the homeless and needy in Bridlington and the surrounding area. We have welcomed many people into the cafe and provided a ‘Warm Space’ where advice, home cooked food, a listening ear and good company are always found.

Behind the scenes the fundraising work continues, specially for a boiler, a new cooker, a purpose built extraction unit for the kitchen, painting of the kitchen and the toilet and repairs to the frontage of the cafe due to the poor work done by the landlords builder!!!!With the permission of the landlord we had the gas supply removed as the pipework needed upgrading and would have looked unsightly and replaced the old gas cooker with an electric one. The boiler was dangerous so it was replaced by a much more efficient one which now services not only the main sinks but the small hand basins in the kitchen and the toilet making it more cost effective.

We saw a huge rise in our utility bills partly caused by the increased rate we had to pay and partly by unauthorised usage of our cooking facilities which was stopped when the Trustees found out about it. We were able to be released from our contract with BES Utilities and moved to British Gas Lite on a much better rate and have seen the monthly bills decrease according.

We continue to support many clients who have been with us over a period of years, who find the cafe an important part of their regular activities and sense of security. The nonjudgemental welcome that they receive ensures they feel able to continue to be with us for as long as they need us.

We are continually grateful for the local support coming to us in the form of food, clothing, sleeping bags and financial donations.

We continually appreciate the constancy and devotion shown to us by our volunteers, which enables us to provide a stable, secure and homely environment for our clients who show their appreciation for all they receive.

The financial results of our accounts for this financial year are Income £54,690 and Expenditure £53,554 therefore our Net Increase was £1,136. We have had the accounts independently verified by Mrs SAC Gibson.

We are looking forward to continuing in this new year our unique services for our clients and our community.

**Report of the independent Examiner to the Trustees of**

## **The Kingfisher Café, Bridlington**

I report on the accounts of the Kingfisher Café, Bridlington for the year ended 31 March 2023, which are set out in the Statement of Financial Activities.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The Charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

(a) examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011;

(b) follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission ( under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act 2011) and

(c) state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## Basis of the independent examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether

the accounts present a "true and fair view", and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

(a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act 2011; or

(b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act 2011; have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
