Achievements and Performance

SORP
reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Maybe Southwest has now been operating in
Bristol for over six years and has been able to
offer support to over 500 recipients during that
time. Over the last 12 months the charity has
offered over 350 1:1 therapeutic sessions; run two
children’s therapeutic art groups, with the
assistance of 13 qualified therapists and 5 Student
Therapists on voluntary training placements.
Adults, young people and children, from a range of
socio-economic backgrounds, including those who
are homeless have received support. Mental
health issues addressed include complex trauma,
child abuse, domestic violence, anxiety, eating
disorders, depression, personality disorders and
dissociative disorders.
Recipients have expressed their gratitude, and
feedback has shown that recipients have felt their
experience of Maybe Southwest to be caring,
supportive and resulting in a positive effect on
their overall wellbeing.
Maybe Southwest has therapists working from it’s
own premises, and also from various locations in
Bristol to improve accessibility to service users in
greatest need; this includes offering therapy
sessions at 1625ip working with young people who
are homeless in central Bristol, at Eden House for
female offenders and at Greenway in North Bristol
working with adults with complex health needs.

Achievements against
objectives set
Para 1.41 Whilst Maybe Southwest is proving to offer a high
quality of mental health support to those who can
access the service, and therefore is meeting it’s
overall objectives, the level of demand for the
service is well beyond the charity’s capacity. The
charity has needed to restrict the number of
referrals taken to reduce waiting times for support
after assessment.
Maybe Southwest is able to offer a number of
voluntary training placements to mature students
on appropriate courses with a range of
establishments including USW, UWE, Iron Mill and
BCPC. Students bring a wealth of knowledge and
energy to the charity and its recipients and, in
return, Maybe Southwest is supporting the
development and training of future therapists.
Maybe Southwest has pursued routes to increase
it’s provision to ex-offenders to promote
rehabilitation and reduce re-offending. We are
now receiving referrals from Interventions Alliance
who are able to promote our service to this client
group, alongside the work we are doing at Eden
House.
Maybe Southwest has recruited a volunteer with
experience in building and maintaining websites to
update our existing site and a Trustee/Treasurer
who is a qualified accountant.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41 Maybe Southwest has continued its charitable
relationship with the Coffee#1 chain, with stores
fundraising in return for wellbeing guidance and
support for the company. We are grateful for their
support.
Maybe Southwest is grateful to have received
funding through David Riddell CIO, The Hilden
Charitable Fund, The Souter Charitable Trust and
Waitrose. Our service users have also voluntarily
donated to Maybe Southwest covering nearly half
of the expenditure of the support we have offered
to them.
Grant fundraising has been difficult in the area of
core costs and with that in mind Maybe Southwest
is looking altering the way it offers services to
improve resilience and reduce its reliance on grant
funding.
Maybe Southwest continues to fundraise through
events such as raffles, art exhibitions, stalls and
general donations.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 At the end of this financial year MAYBE has
£26,976 funds remaining, approximately £7,200 of
which has been allocated to recipients in the
Bristol area to complete their therapeutic support.
Further recipients are waiting for allocation
amounting to the predicted sum for the coming
year of a further £14,500 if the necessary funding
can be achieved. However, allocation to
recipients will not be made until funding is
confirmed.
Voluntary work by Therapists equates to
approximately 16 sessions per week. Voluntary
work towards the running of Maybe Southwest by
the Director and other volunteers equates to
approximately 1.25 person F/T.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Maybe Southwest will retain reserves to ensure
continuity of care for clients already receiving
therapy who may require longer treatment than
expected. This also ensures that should the
charity’s future become uncertain, sufficient sums
remain to allow for appropriate ending sessions for
clients to be completed.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £3000
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 N/A
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 N/A
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 Maybe Southwest is wanting to expand in Bristol
and the surrounding area, to continue to support
the need for services in the area. However, due to
lack of resilient funding sources growth is not
sustainable and in order to prevent closure of the
charity a new way of delivering services is
required, at least for the short term.
As such, the Trustees have decided to move the
majority of sessions provided to locations within
other organisations such as 1625ip, Eden House
and the Greenway Centre, to reduce any costs on
accommodation and also to reduce the
administrative load until resilient core funding can
be found.
Whilst this will reduce the capacity of the charity to
deliver sessions it will allow Maybe to concentrate
resources on the most vulnerable and meet that
need at locations that are accessible to those
recipients.
Further expansion will then only be considered if
sustainable funding can be sourced.
