Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference |
||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Maybe Southwest has now been operating in Bristol for nearly five years and has been able to offer support to approximately 200 recipients, carrying out over 1200 1:1 therapeutic sessions over the last 12 months and running two children’s therapeutic art groups, with the assistance of twelve qualified therapists and five Student Therapists on voluntary training placements. Adults, young people and children, from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, including those who are homeless have received support. Mental health issues addressed include complex trauma, child abuse, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, personality disorders and dissociative disorders. Recipients have expressed their gratitude, and feedback has shown that recipients have felt their experience of Maybe Southwest to be caring, supportive and resulting in a positive effect on their overall wellbeing. Maybe Southwest has therapists working from it’s own premises, and also from various locations in Bristol to improve accessibility to service users in greatest need; this includes offering therapy sessions at 1625ip working with young people who are homeless in central Bristol and at the Compass Centre in Bristol workingwith adults who are homeless. |

| Achievements against objectives set |
Achievements against objectives set |
Whilst Maybe Southwest is proving to offer a high quality of mental health support to those who can access the service, and therefore is meeting it’s overall objectives, the level of demand for the service is well beyond the charity’s capacity. The charity has needed to restrict the number of referrals taken to reduce waiting times for support after assessment. Maybe Southwest is able to offer a number of voluntary training placements to mature students on appropriate courses with a range of establishments including UWE, Iron Mill and BCPC. Students bring a wealth of knowledge and energy to the charity and its recipients and, in return, Maybe Southwest is supporting the development and training of future therapists. |

| Achievements against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | Whilst Maybe Southwest is proving to offer a high quality of mental health support to those who can access the service, and therefore is meeting it’s overall objectives, the level of demand for the service is well beyond the charity’s capacity. |
|
| Maybe Southwest also pursuing routes to increase it’s provision to ex-offenders to promote rehabilitation and reduce re-offending. This is an area for further attention, as whilst we have the capacity to work with this client group, information is not yet reaching them in the community through the channels we have tried to date. We are now hoping to work with Interventions Alliance to promote the service to this client group. |
||
|---|---|---|
| Performance of fundraising activities against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | Maybe Southwest is now reaching out to local businesses to access funding for the charity to help meet the growing demand for its services. In particular, an agreement in principle to establish a charitable relationship is being established with the Coffee#1 chain. Grant fundraising has been difficult due to the loss of grants from some funders, such as the Community Lottery Fund who have changed their criteria for funding. Maybe Southwest is grateful to have received funding through The Hilden Charitable Fund, The Albert Hunt Trust and CV50. Our service users have also voluntarily donated to Maybe Southwest covering nearly half of the expenditure of the support we have offered to them. Maybe Southwest continues to fundraise through events such as raffles, art exhibitions, stalls and general donations. |
Financial Review
| Financial Review | ||
|---|---|---|
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | At the end of this financial year MAYBE has over £21,555 funds remaining, approximately £11,000 of which have already been allocated to recipients in the Bristol area. Further recipients are waiting for allocation amounting to the predicted sum for the coming year of a further £20,000 if the necessary funding can be achieved. However, allocation to recipients will not be made until funding is confirmed. Voluntary work by Therapists equates to approximately 10 sessions per week. Voluntary work towards the running of Maybe Southwest by the Director and other volunteers equates to approximately 1 person F/T. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves statingwhytheyare held |
Para 1.22 | Maybe Southwest will retain reserves to ensure continuityof care for clients alreadyreceivingtherapy |
| who may require longer treatment than expected. This also ensures that should the charity’s future become uncertain, sufficient sums remain to allow for appropriate ending sessions for clients to be completed. |
||
|---|---|---|
| Amount of reserves held | Para 1.22 | £4000 |
| Reasons for holding zero reserves |
Para 1.22 | N/A |
| Details of fund materially in deficit |
Para 1.24 | N/A |
| Explanation of any uncertainties about the charity continuing as a going concern |
Para 1.23 | Maybe Southwest is wanting to expand in Bristol and the surrounding area. Funding is, however, more uncertain than in previous years and this will prevent further growth and may possibly result in a reduction in service in the months ahead. Maybe Southwest’s expansion over the last two years has meant that the charity has outgrown its present accommodation and the charity needs to look at alternative premises in the year ahead. The size of the charity has now reached a point where the director is in need of administrative support and the board of Trustees requires expansion to acquire skills in areas of weakness, such as technology and social media communication. These are areas for planning for the year ahead. |

| Note 2 Accounting policies 2.2 INCOME Recognition of income These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when: Offsetting Grants and donations Legacies Government grants The charity has received government grants in the reporting period Donated goods Support costs The charity has incurred expenditure on support costs. Volunteer help · the charity becomes entitled to the resources; · it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; · the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability. There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102. Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP). In the case of performance related grants, income must only be recognised to the extent that the charity has provided the specified goods or services as entitlement to the grant only occurs when the performance related conditions are met (5.16 FRS 102 SORP). Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met. Tax reclaims on donations and gifts Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise. Contractual income and performance related grants This is only included in the SoFA once the charity has provided the related goods or services or met the performance related conditions. Donated goods are measured at fair value (the amount for which the asset could be exchanged) unless impractical to do so. The cost of any stock of goods donated for distribution to beneficiaries is deemed to be the fair value of those gifts at the time of their receipt and they are recognised on receipt. In the reporting period in which the stocks are distributed, they are recognised as an expense at the carrying amount of the stocks at distribution. Donated goods for resale are measured at fair value on initial recognition, which is the expected proceeds from sale less the expected costs of sale, and recognised in 'Income from other trading activities' with the corresponding stock recognised in the balance sheet. On its sale the value of stock is charged against 'Income from other trading activities' and the proceeds from sale are also recognised as 'Income from other trading activities'. Goods donated for on-going use by the charity are recognised as tangible fixed assets and included in the SoFA as incoming resources when receivable. Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SoFA as income from donations when receivable. Donated services and facilities Donated services and facilities are included in the SOFA when received at the value of the gift to the charity provided the value of the gift can be measured reliably. Donated services and facilities that are consumed immediately are recognised as income with an equivalent amount recognised as an expense under the appropriate heading in the SOFA. The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the trustees’ annual report. |

Investments Income from interest, royalties and dividends This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable can be measured reliably. Income from membership subscriptions Membership subscriptions received in the nature of a gift are recognised in Donations and Legacies. Governance and support costs Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support. Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its compliance with regulation and good practice. Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources, eg allocating property costs by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage. Grants with performance conditions Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SoFA once the recipient of the grant has provided the specified service or output. Grants payable without performance conditions Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to realistically avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding obligation must be recognised. The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts A liability is measured on recognition at its historical cost and then subsequently measured at the best estimate of the amount required to settle the obligation at the reporting date Basic financial instruments The charity accounts for basic financial instruments on initial recognition as per paragraph 10.7 FRS102 SORP. Subsequent measurement is as per paragraphs 11.17 to 11.19, FRS102 SORP.
