Objectives and activities
The relief of sickness and preservation of good health by providing
psychotherapy services for members of the public who are experiencing
mental health needs not met by statutory services and are unable to
access therapy due to insufficient financial means.
Summary of the main
activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects (include within
this section the statutory
declaration that trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit)
Maybe Southwest Charity meets these objectives by:

Assessing recipients psychological needs. Assessments are
carried out by a qualified psychologist and are free of charge to
the recipient.

Raising funds to pay for the services of self-employed
Psychotherapists and Art Therapists who meet the criteria of the
charity; including enhanced DBS checks, insurance, membership
of a professional body, sufficient qualifications and experience, or
under the supervision of an appropriate training body.

Allocating recipients to a suitable Therapist for an agreed length
of time, to be reviewed and extended if funding is available.

Organising and running therapeutic art groups for adults and
children. Groups to be facilitated by self-employed, appropriately
trained therapists.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main Maybe Southwest has now been operating in Bristol for nearly three achievements of the charity years and has been able to offer support to approximately 100 recipients during the year carrying out over 1200 therapeutic sessions over the last 12 months, with the assistance of 12 professional Psychotherapists and Art Therapists, and a three Student Therapists. Adults, young people and children, from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, including those who are homeless have received support. Mental health issues addressed include complex trauma, child abuse, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, personality disorders and dissociative disorders. Recipients have expressed their gratitude and feedback has shown that recipients have felt their experience of MAYBE to be caring and positive.

Section E Financial review

Brief statement of the At the end of this financial year MAYBE has over £20,000 funds charity’s policy on reserves remaining, £11,000 of which have already been allocated to recipients in Bristol. Further recipients are waiting for allocation amounting to the predicted sum for the coming year of a further £20,000 if the necessary funding can

be achieved. However, allocation to recipients will not be made until funding is confirmed. Maybe Southwest will retain £4000 reserve to ensure continuity of care for clients already receiving therapy who may require longer treatment than expected. Voluntary work by Therapists equates to approximately 10 sessions per week. Voluntary work towards the running of Maybe Southwest by the Director and other volunteers equates to approximately 1 person F/T.

Further financial review details (Optional information)

Maybe is expanding in Bristol. At present the charity continues to recruit Therapists to increase the number of therapist hours available, particularly in the first instance, for children and young people to meet the rising demand for services by this age group.

Maybe is due to begin offering services at the Homeless Health Service in central Bristol to enable this client group to engage with support at a familiar location.

Maybe also hopes to increase it’s provision to ex-offenders to promote rehabilitation and reduce re-offending.

The allocation of Community Lottery Fund Grants, alongside fundraising and the unrestricted reserves donated over the course of the last two years supports this expansion. Furthermore sustainable sources of funding are being sought to ensure the sustained success and expansion of the charity.

Maybe with its current staffing, offers three Voluntary Student Therapist placements with the intention of being able to introduce a Voluntary Student Art Therapist placement over the coming year.
