Annual Accounts January 2020 – December 2020

Charity Name: Delilah’s Umbrella Charity Number: 1172901

Trustees:

2020 has been a difficult year for many. The biggest part of our fundraising comes from attending various shows throughout the year, which unfortunately have all been cancelled for 2020. The second area of our raising money comes from the attendance of people to see the animals, or visits out to care homes or other groups. Again, this has not been able to happen due to COVID restrictions. Like many other organisations we have had to rethink how we work and attempt to generate some income in other ways.

During the latter part of the summer months we introduced Lockdown Sessions where families, individuals, couples, could come and spend 2 hours with the animals for £10. This was done in a COVID safe way with each group being the only ones on site, public toilets cleaned between visits, hand sanitiser available and 2-metre distance maintained.

Feedback from visitors was always positive, with some families returning at a later date for another visit. The variety of animals were a huge hit and everyone commented on the novelty of being able to really get up and close with the animals rather than having a barrier between them and the animal. Many commented on the wonderful nature of the animals and how friendly and relaxed they were.

We saw many success stories including young children who were afraid of cows – by the end of his visit he was stroking them. Also a young girl who had become terrified to leave her home due to COVID and this had been her only outing, she said she felt calm and safe with us.

We anticipate that 2021 will also be a rather quiet year and therefore if possible we will begin the sessions again during the warmer months.

The charity also benefited from the arrival of some new stars! Some Shetland Sheep and a Shetland Pony foal arrived on site, as well as some chickens. All of which have been a big hit with visitors.

While the lack of shows has been disappointing for the team, we look forward to being able to get back into them in the coming years.
